In an effort to whole-heartedly embrace the holiday season, I did something I’ve never done before: I decorated my entire bedroom for Christmas.

In the past, I was usually the type of person who placed subtle accent pieces around my home as a slight nod to the upcoming holiday. However, this year, especially because I have two kids under two, I decided it was time to introduce them to all that Christmas offers and add a more festive feeling to the season. We spend so much time in our bedroom (not to mention it’s the first and last environment we spend our mornings and nights!) so I can’t help but wonder why I waited so many years to outfit this room for the holidays!

Here is how I incorporated a bit of Christmas and fa-la-la-la-la spirit into my bedroom….

Easy Accents

I adore my bedroom furniture, so I left existing pieces as the foundation of the room and decided to focus mostly on bringing in accent pieces. A new rustic-inspired lamp or comforter is the easiest way to make a massive difference, and it offers the perfect retreat after spending a chilly day outside. Layering accent pillows in various shades and fabrics gives your creative buds an opportunity to swap out new designs and patterns. The most exciting (and soft!) addition to the room was our new cozy sheepskin rug that adds rich texture and warmth… and is now my favorite spot to curl up with a good book alongside flickering candles!

Deck the Halls

The most obvious way to set the scene for Santa was by bringing iconic items into the room. I placed a simple, classic nutcracker in a prominent spot so that he could watch over the room (and he has since become became my kids’ most treasured item!). Our eyes naturally dart to the bed the moment you step into a bedroom so I draped winter-inspired cedar and cone garland on our headboard for a cozy winter scene.

Color Me Christmas

There are so many great winter palettes to choose from, but I kept the color combo small so that a more dramatic and impactful vibe was present. Neutral-colored blankets, tan and rust storage baskets, and storage boxes in shades of black and white allowed the bold, red items such as throws and ornaments to truly take center stage.

Fun for the Little Elves

Instead of getting a traditional green Christmas tree, I decided to mix it up with an eclectic silver-colored Christmas tree! My kids loved placing their ornaments on our new grey garden stool side table (which is the perfect size for them!) and filling up the tree. And, we couldn’t resist enjoying big mugs of hot chocolate on our new wooden tray.

‘Tis the season to enjoy all of the magic of holidays …
