Perk Up Your Patio

Guest blogger Kirsten Grove of widely read home/design blog treats us to a spring celebration of style … her patio picks will inspire you.

Sadly, my patio has been neglected since last fall. I’ve been using random furniture for it, including wicker chairs I got when my husband and I were first married … 13 years ago. They’ve definitely seen MUCH better days. It was prime time to update our patio furniture!

I’m all about having a comfortable outdoor space that’s inviting enough to just sit and relax with a drink in hand. Though I love outdoor dining spaces, I wanted to create a really nice living space. When I first saw the Zuo Modern Tulum Outdoor Loveseat, I gasped with pure delight. It’s super sleek and modern but uber comfortable. The lines are clean, which is important to me for my patio. In the summer I have a lot of great greenery and flowers growing everywhere so I need my furniture to be a simple so it doesn’t compete with my landscaping.

We have guests over a lot during the summer, so I needed some extra seating besides the loveseat. Armen Living’s 3-piece Rattan Set is the perfect solution for cool seating and table space. You can use the set for an eating area, or divide the set, like I did, and use it for seating. These pieces are super light which makes moving them around a piece of cake. I’ve already used them for different purposes all over my patio.

If you’re trying to create the look of an outdoor living space, an outdoor rug is essential. It brings the pieces together and makes the space look more cohesive. I chose this blue Thom Filicia by Safavieh Durston Rug. I’m totally in love! The pattern is exactly what I wanted for my space. I get more compliments on this rug than any other piece.

I love mixing rustic elements with modern, so I’m using a wood bench that my father-in-law made for me as a coffee table. Mixing wood with rattan gives off such great decorating vibes. And if you’re wondering what to accessorize with for your outdoor space, I love adding potted plants, fresh flowers, and even fruits and veggies. Anything living will make for great details in your outdoor space.
