Pressure Cookers: 10 Quick Tips
1. Pressure cookers aren't the same as pressure canners. Canners are larger and hold pressure better, necessary for safe canning. They have gauges for accurate preserving. Pressure cookers are smaller and lighter, a versatile way to cook delicious family dinners quickly.

2. Gasket or screw-type pressure cookers? Gasket-style pressure cookers are a little easier to use, but screw-type pressure cookers require less maintenance in the long run. Gaskets should be replaced every year. Find the best replacement gaskets here.

3. The number one safety feature that comes with any pressure cooker: the instruction manual. Read it first.

4. Can you stand the pressure? As your pressure cooker ages, the gauge may lose its accuracy. Your county extension agent can test it for you, and we carry quality replacement gauges if you need one.

5. We're dead serious about preventing botulism. If you follow instructions and use a pressure cooker properly, your food will be safer, more wholesome and dee-lishier!

6. Grandma's recipes might be better than yours, but your pressure cooker is better than hers. New pressure cookers are lighter, stronger, safer, and more fun to use.

7. For a big family or special holiday gathering, an electric pressure cooker is heaven-sent. It makes fool-proof meals fast and leaves the stovetop free for other fixin's.

8. No-pressure shopping: we carry only the best pressure cooker brands, including Presto, Mirro, and Chef's Design.

9. Microwaves cook fast but often leave food bland, watery, and gray. Pressure cookers cook fast, too, saving time and energy - and your food comes out tasting like old-fashioned Sunday dinner. Even cheaper cuts of meat come out fork-tender.

10. Bigger isn't always better. A pressure cooker works best if it's around two-thirds full. A small pressure cooker up to 4 quarts is great for smaller meals, while a family of four or more may benefit from a cooker in the 5-8 quart range.
