Keep It Hot with Fire Pit Accessories
Wood-fueled fire pits are the backyard favorites for getting warm, grilling foods, and enjoying the sights and smells of a starry night campfire. The downside of a wood-fired pit is that it’s always hungry for fuel. When the fire dims, somebody’s got to get up for more firewood — you'll notice that's when everyone avoids direct eye contact, all warm and relaxed, looking up at the stars.
That's why we recommend installing a firewood rack and cart. Set a fire pit caddy on your patio or deck, stock it with the help of a wheeled firewood cart, and all you’ll have to do is reach down and toss another log on the fire. Or at least have an easier time getting someone else to do it.
Propane gas fueled fire pits are another way to avoid firewood restocking. Their fires won’t burn as hot as wood, but propane tanks can last a while without refilling. The sight of a wood-less flame is a big part of a propane pit’s appeal. And have you seen the new fire pits and tables that use fire glass rocks or crystals? Love. They create scenes of dancing flames reflected by colored, heat-tempered glass. With fire glass rocks, you can change the display with different colors or switch your propane pit from artificial logs or lava rocks.
Remember that a wood fire, unlike propane, will emit sparks. Lots of fire pits come with protective screens included, but if yours is without - or you just need a replacement - do take the time to get one. If you’re in a snowy climate or use your fire pit sporadically, we also recommend buying a polyester or canvas protective cover to guard it from the elements.
