Super Product

One of the best compost bins I have researched. It's sturdy, put together with nuts and bolts and the lid fits neatly on the top without using hinges.

Comments about Redmon Green Culture 65 Gallon Compost Bin:

Very easy to put together and I love the large capacity and extra doors. I've had a different compost bin for the past 20 years @ different residences and this one is much better. I was going to go for what I utilized before but it was expensive so decided to try this one and I'm glad I did.
The only improvement I would add is longer stakes to hold it in the ground.
    Thank you Hayneedle.

Comments about Redmon Green Culture 65 Gallon Compost Bin:

I don't expect to make a substantial amount of compost, but I wanted a place other than the trash to put kitchen scraps and yard waste. If the scraps break down into usable compost- super. If raccoons or rodents dig in and get a free meal it won't be the end of the world for me.
With that mediocre goal in mind, this compost bin is perfect. Mostly because I didn't want to spend well over a hundred dollars for one. It's a nice size and was very easy to put together. (And when it comes to putting things together I have the abilities of a palsied great-grandmother combined with the temper and reasoning skills of a 2 year old, so if I say it's easy to put together it really is.)
The top lifts completely off like an outdoor trash can lid, it does not have hinges. Maybe one day when I become the composting queen I'll wish the top let in some rainwater, but probably not. I'm not sure why the bin needs four access doors on the bottom, but they're all there and functional.
Another review mentioned that it sits on the ground. Yes, it does. Where else would it sit? If you really want to make compost, having direct contact with the ground allows earthworms to colonize the finished product. If you're worried about feeding the mice, get one with a screen across the bottom. It does have two short prong/stake things per side, to help secure it into the ground.
I'm pleased with this purchase, and I recommend this item if you want a basic, unobtrusive compost bin.

Looks better than the last compster I had, and I don't think that the neighbors will have any objection to it (between our two properties). The composter arrived earlier than scheduled. I will return with a performance review after I get it set up and have used it for a while.

Although I haven't had time to produce any compost yet, the bin itself is a good size for a home garden, easy to assemble and sturdy. My only concern is that closing the door for removing compost might be difficult when the bin is full.

                          Customer Q & A

                          1 Question About This Product
Q: "What is the aerator and its function on this compost bin"
                          A:

A compost aerator is a tool which is used to increase air circulation in a compost pile, promoting rapid breakdown of the substances in the pile. A compost aerator is a critical tool for rapid, successful, and low-odor composting.

A compost aerator breaks up the compost, introducing fresh air to the depths of the pile so that the bacteria inside can thrive. Compost aerators are very easy to use; all the gardener needs to do is jab the aerator into the compost bin several times to stir up the compost. People sometimes refer to this as “activating the compost,” stressing the idea that the flow of fresh air gets the bacteria and fungi inside the compost active again.

Without periodic aeration, a compost pile will start to become unhealthy. Discarded items will take a long time to break down, and the compost may develop a strong and unpleasant smell. If a compost pile starts to work much more slowly than it has in the past, it is time for an aeration session, unless it is winter, in which case the bacteria may have slowed down on their own.
