Comments about Nikon 16-48x60 Spotting Scope XL II:
This spotting scope outfit is just what I need to view wildlife and hunt with. It is more compact and lighter than most other models that offer the same quality and zoom. Although it has decent eye relief (19 mm I believe), it can still be a challenge to use for those with eyeglasses. After fiddling with the tripod for about 5 minutes I was able to work eveything just fine.
Pros
- Bright Eyepiece
- Strong Magnification
Cons
- Long Cooldown/Warmup
Best Uses
- Bright Conditions
- Low Visibility
- wildlife viewing
Comments about Nikon 16-48x60 Spotting Scope XL II:
I recently spent a few days in Yellowstone NP looking for wolves using my new Nikon scope. One day was - 14 with blowing snow and the scope stayed relatively fog free with the exception of going from outside to inside the vehicle.
Good clarity, sturdy construction, I was not worried about dropping the scope and the "picture" was very good.
BIG bads are the difficulty in adjusting the focus and magnification. The turning tension of the mag. and focus is way too tight and requires that you use two hands. The tripod arrangement of the level handle pokes you in the face. To avoid the face poking you can mount the scope in reverse but that creates a contortionist angle to adjust the level. The tripod combination with this scope is not a good one. In addition the lens cap lock is not a workable solution, at least on mine. The locking gap is not sufficient to maintain a grip in the lens cap. We had wind and the blowing cap is not fun when you have the view of a lifetime on the Druid wolf pack.
The guts are Nikon quality but user friendly status has a way to go.
