The assembly of the cage was the worst experience I ever had. The cage came in pieces and you have to put it together.
Now, I'm a very patient individual, but this pushed me over the edge. First the instructions are not clear of how to piece this cage together.
I finally lost my patient and ask my husband (which is very technical inclined) to help me put this thing together.
Well, after two days we still don't have this cage together. On day three we ask our neighbor to help us since she works at PetsMart and has the knowledge with difficult dog cages.
It took roughly 3hrs to put this thing together with 3 people. Our neighbor said not to purchase another cage that comes in pieces, like this one. The once which are already assembled and all you have to do is unfold them are the best. Unfortunately, the other cages you can buy don't make this extra large size cage.
Other than piecing this kennel together, its a good place for our dog. He has plenty of room and is quite comfortable in his cage.

Comments about Midwest Starter Series 54 Inch Single Door Dog Crate:

I bought this cage expecting it to be flimsy, but was very surprised how well built it actually is. The wires are heavier gauge than the smaller cages which was my biggest concern for its integrity.

From opening the box to putting the drop-pins in took about 30 mins by myself. Two people would've made the task a little easier but was still really easy for one person and a table or wall to use as a brace.

With a 1 year old 150lb great dane with the strength to bend cages as he has, I took a ChannelLock and bent the top perimeter wires into themselves securing the top of the cage to the sides, also put heavy duty zip ties (175lb tensile strength) or something like that around the cage. I don't believe either of these things has compromised the cage in any way, and this thing has virtually no flex in it at all, rock solid

Comments about Midwest Starter Series 54 Inch Single Door Dog Crate:

I researched dozens of kennels, looking for one that was large and sturdy
for our 2 rescued and adopted Pit Bull puppies who need to sleep by one another.
This 54 size is exactly what I needed.
It was easy enough to put together and is very well built.
The door swing action is smooth, as well as the locking action.

The puppies slept like babies last night with the extra leg room.
      Thank you.

I bought the cages to use as indoor kennels for my outdoor runs. [...]. Cages are difficult for one person to assemble but easy with 2 people because of size and weight. Nice sturdy cages.

Comments about Midwest Starter Series 54 Inch Single Door Dog Crate:

This kennel is definitely difficult to assemble and easy to do the wrong way. It is best done with at least 2 people. And don't plan to move it once you ahve it up is the best plan. On the other hand it is big enough for a full sized Dane and is sturdy enough to hold him no matte the situation. The pan is not sturdy and falls apart easily. And there are no replacement trays I could find. So we use ply wood.
