Valves quit working in less than a year

Comments about Algreen Cascata 65 Gallon Rain Barrel:

I bought 4 of these rain barrels as my Spring project last year. Had them professionally installed, concrete poured and platforms built. They are beautiful. However, one by one the valves quit working. So now I have four 65 gallon rain barrels that are full and I am unable to access the water. Im going to try to unscrew the spigot head and inspect the spigot for something that may be clogging it up. Since there is a grid/screen at the opening I doubt it could be clogged, most likely defective cheap spouts in all four that I should replace. My husband works out of town so I am left to resolve this myself ! What a pain! I spent a lot of money on these barrels.

Comments about Algreen Cascata 65 Gallon Rain Barrel:

This should be a 5-star product. I rated it 4-stars because the first rain barrel I received was flawed. There was a hole in the seam surrounding the faucet inset hole. There was mashed, melted plastic over what looked like a repaired hole in the back of the body. Plus, the top half of the rain barrel body didn't meet the bottom half smoothly at the waistband seam. That rain barrel shouldn't have passed Quality Control nor sold to a customer in the first place.

I returned the rain barrel and want to give compliments and appreciation to Hayneedle for the smoothness of the transaction. (Buyers! Keep the original box and enclosed items until you inspect your barrel carefully!) My original purchase price was credited in full and I re-ordered another barrel.

My second rain barrel was perfect. (No melted/mashed plastic in the back and the faucet hole was small and concise.)

What makes this rain barrel stand out are two things: the planter section at the top is REMOVEABLE, and the faucet is actually brass, not plastic with a brass-color coating on it. Rain barrel shoppers should pay attention that many other rain barrel designs are 1-piece only and their planter tops do NOT come off as this one does. With other designs you have minimal/to no ability to get inside the barrel to clean it out should you want to.

I put this rain barrel in my back yard, raised on 2 layers of bricks. The black hose that comes with the unit and exits from the bottom of the barrel works as expected but is only as long as the barrel is tall. That's not quite long enough to be practical, so I will be hooking up a garden hose to the front faucet for most of my watering. Time will tell whether the large capacity of the barrel will make a difference in watering costs over the summer to come. At least I feel I have some control over water availability when I need it.

    Customer Q & A

    1 Question About This Product
Q: "Does this rain barrel kit contain everything needed to hook up to the downspout coming from the house?"

Yes, the only item that you will need to provide for the Cascata Rain Barrel would be the downspout from the house and a flat head screwdriver. The instructions can be found at the following link:
