We bought this as a gift for my father in-law to use at Packer Games. He had a real problem using binoculars with his vision and glasses. This monocular helped at lot!

Comments about Barska 6x30 Blueline Waterproof Monocular:

These will not be confused with a Zeiss product - the coatings appear to be single-layer, with plenty of internal reflections looking at the moon, but it doesn't really hurt the view, and it's not evident in daytime. The focuser is narrow and stiff, but once you set it at infinity, the depth of field is good enough for open areas (say, 80 feet to infinity) and it won't slip and lose focus. Near focus is about 9 feet. Decent sharpness on axis, not too bad at the edge of field, and the 6x magnification is about as much as I can steadily hand-hold in a monocular. The eye relief seems to be about the advertised 20mm, with a twist-up eyecup for use without glasses. The field of view measures close to the advertised 10.4 degrees. The advertised weight is way off: it weighs 7.85 ounces, not 3.47. The zippered vinyl pouch isn't bad, and it has a belt loop. There's a rubber plug covering a socket for a tripod or monopod to steady the view. However, there are no end caps provided. The weight's higher than I wanted to pocket, but other than that, this inexpensive monocular is what I needed to carry in a canoe or kayak.

Comments about Barska 6x30 Blueline Waterproof Monocular:

I bought these for birdwatching for situations where I did not want to lug around binoculars. I wasn't really expecting monoculars to perform very well for birdwatching, but I have been pleasantly surprised. The best things about them are the big eyepiece and the large field of view. And even though they are Bak7 lenses, they are very clear and make sense for a monocular that will only be used for special situations. I've read that 6x power is the optimal strength for birdwatching with monoculars and I have to agree. I previously purchased a 8x25 monocular that I returned as I could not comfortably or easily watch birds with them. I really like the ergonomics and the quality of build. And finally, they have great eye relief for people like me that wear glasses.
