The best thing that ever happened to a rain barrel is a diverter. We bought this for our son and daughter-in law to go with a rain barrel for Christmas. The web description said it fits a 2x3 spout, which is perfect, because that's what they have. But the installation literature says it can be adapted to a 3x4 spout with enclosed parts. We won't be trying this until Spring, so I won't know for sure what's involved, but it's good to know since we'll be in the market for rain barrels and diverters for ourselves, after we get all our gutters replaced. They will be 3x4.

This diverter does not easily adapt to a 3x4 downspout. In fact, the "funnel" was not even available from Rain Barrel Source. The easiest place to get that part was from Rain Reserve, directly. The funnel was a much thinner gauge than the downspout it was adapting. "Shaping" it creatively with pliers, as suggested in the instructions, was near impossible with hand tools and the results look sloppy. Fit at both ends was less than satisfactory. This product might be great for a 2x3 downspout but if Rain Reserve wants to serve them 3x4 market well, they have to create a variation that installs easily and fits right. In any case, the fasteners do not hold snug.

Comments about Enginuity Basic RainReserve Diverter System:

The item was a bit pricey to start and proved to be somewhat of a challenge to install. It should be re-designed. However, in the end it appears to work as advertised.

My diverter has nothing to divert downspout water to the section that will go to the collection barrel. All the water will go straight down to the continuation of the downspout. [...]. I am ready to send the diverter back, because there is no way the unit will function in its present form. A schematic would be useful to see what I am missing.
