Adorable but flimsy

Comments about Boomer & George Cottage Chicken Coop:

Very easy to assemble, less than 1 hour for this moderately handy couple. Painted finish i(whitewash) will need repainting to withstand the elements in Ontario. The locks are pretty flimsy and easily openend at the corners, more will need to be dded. A cut in the hardware cloth in packaging/shipping will mean the whole panel will need replacing. Despite reading the dimensions it was much smaller than anticipated (height measured at the decorative peak not the roof) and I couldn't put 6 chickens in there! Maybe 3-4. Still, it is adorable but perhaps best suited for a spoiled rabbit rather than a small backyard flock. I will raise off the ground and add a larger run for my birds to make this work.

Comments about Boomer & George Cottage Chicken Coop:

I love this coop but I have very mixed emotions on the quality for the price we paid. I splurged on this small coop, but I saved up & bought on Memorial day when it was on sale. It is adorable once we completed it and looks just like the picture on hayneedle.com; however, there were numerous defects in the product. First we noticed a hole in the chicken wire that was big enough that a snake could come through & will need to be patched or repaired. Then as we began to assemble, we found numerous dammaged/splintered wood pieces. Some of them were covered by end caps, but not all of them. It is just frustrating for something new to be dammaged. Also, it is painted poorly, with whitewash over the black hinges in places. The X wood trim does not match up on some of the doors and while most of that is cosmetic, what bothered my husband the most, was that teh doors are not braced, so even when they are locked, they swing open from the inside. We will either have to move the locks to attach them to a permanent trim piece on top or bottom of center compartment. Chickens can get out the way the instructions/locks provided tell you to install.

Comments about Boomer & George Cottage Chicken Coop:

Okay so let me just say the the Coop is really cute, but it lacks substance. The latches will have to reinforced so they don't open up and there were some holes drilled where they didn't need to be i.e. someone drilled the holed incorrectly and just moved them without patching the holes back up and on mine this is where the cute front doors are. At this time it is put together so I wouldn't bother returning it. Paint is more weathered than the pictures shows and the picture makes it appear larger than it really is.

Comments about Boomer & George Cottage Chicken Coop:

I just recently purchased this item, which was delivered very quickly, but the box was broken, as were some of the pieces. Obviously this was partly due to Fed Ex, but I felt it could have been packaged in two boxes as opposed to one, and then packed with more protective material between layers. You have to install the handles and latches yourself, which is fine; however, the latches are flimsy, and allow themselves to easily open when the doors are pulled on. My doors are tied currently with twine for safety until I can get better latching mechanisms today. The wood is rather thin, cracking when you tighten a screw down normally - reminds me of the balsam fir wood they would let us girls use "back in the day" in wood shop. I was able to assemble by myself in about two hours. It's pleasing to look at in the yard, but not as durable as anticipated. Will most likely need to replace by the end of winter - it's now October.

The Boomer & George Cottage Chicken Coop is beautifully styled, full of great details, and is built to last! The coop is sturdily engineered with reinforced corner supports and slatted fir wood boards. Compare the boards of the Boomer & George Cottage Chicken Coop construction to other chicken coops and you'll appreciate the added durability.
