I bought these to use on the boat but since we are in the midst of a very cold winter, it will be spring before they can be tested on the water, However I have used them around our property (5 acres) to view birds, etc. I even used them to watch the recovery of a car that drove into our creek about 800 ft from our house on our neighbors property. Could have used a little more power for this effort but it was interesting how they work so well. The focus was fantastic and I didn't have to fiddle around. I got out another pair of binoculars that you focus yourself and could not get as good of a focus as these autofocus binocs got.

These appear to be a very good value, but being a novice to binocs I didn't pay close attention to the details.
They were too heavy for me. Also the close focus turns out to be 35 feet and that is to far for me. This detail I didn't find in the description.
I returned them, but in the right circumstance they would be fine

Comments about Bushnell 7x50mm PermaFocus Focus-Free Wide-Angle Binoculars:

Bushnell is making the Jason binoculars that I used on my sailboat. I was very glad to be able to find these because my former mate has the pair we used on the boat. With these binoculars I can just grab and look--no worries about focusing, and they stand up to a marine environment. The strap that comes with the binoculars is plastic, uncomfortable, and undesirable, and I had to buy a better one.

Comments about Bushnell 7x50mm PermaFocus Focus-Free Wide-Angle Binoculars:

Purchased the PermaFocus binoculars to replace existing. I had trouble focusing the previous binoculars and the PermaFocus is perfect for me. Once I have them setup, I don't need to make any additional adjustments.

        Customer Q & A

        5 Questions About This Product
Q: "What is PermaFocus compared to binoculars without this feature?"
A: PermaFocus means that the binocular is preset for distance and you will not need (or be able) to adjust the focus. These are very good for sporting events like car racing, football, etc.
Q: "Would these particular binoculars be suitable for looking at the stars?"
A: If you want to look just at stars, just about any binocular will do. A star will appear as a pinpoint of light, even in the largest telescope! If you're interested in looking at the Moon or planets, though, you'll want something with more magnification. We'd recommend 10X at a minimum. More is better!
Q: "I have a pair of binoculars which I love and wish to purchase a second identical pair. The pair I have is several years old and is marked: Jason Perma Focus 2000 7X50 Do you have this exact item or something extremely close to it?"
A: Jason is no longer made under its own name; Bushnell bought the company out. However, you can still get PermaFocus binoculars. The Bushnell 7x50 Wide Angle, PermaFocus binocular isn't the old Jason, but it's pretty close. Here's the URL; just paste it into your browser's address window: http://binoculars.com/products/bushnell-7x50-permafocus-focus-free-wide-angle-8084.html.
Q: "What is the closest focus distance for the Bushnell 7 x 50 Permafocus? I'm concerned about blurred close ups?"
A: The Bushnell PermaFocus binoculars have a fixed focus point and cannot focus any closer or further away than the fixed point.  There is no real measurement for close focus on any auto/perma focus binoculars, since this varies depending on the individual user.
Q: "Would these be good for football games?"
A: Yes, these would work quite well for sporting events!  They would not need to be focused, which keeps your eyes on the game.
