This chair is very comfortable, I wish it was a bit wider and easier to lay back. It does take same leg strenth to push the foot bar to get it to recline. One does want to be careful when moving the chair into a reclining or sitting position in terms of the placement of their hands since one can easily smash their fingers if they are wrapped around the arm rests. Make sure to keep one's fingers on top of the rest when changing positions and it should be fine. The chair is very comfortable; although, I wish it were a bit longer. I am 5'6" and it would be nice if my ankles could be in contact with the mesh of the chair, but they are not. They rest slightly bent on the foot bar and lay beyond it if my legs are fully extended. I can see how someone who is several inches taller might find this chair less supportive in the leg area. I use this chair in my office so I can put my legs up and recline a bit while I read. To make it more comfortable I lay a blanket over it which also keeps me warmer on cold days. My cats hop on it to sleep whenever I am not in the chair. It is a hit with the whole family.
