I wanted it for my plants, although my Husband and Grandson have different ideas for it! (Fishing). I love the convenience of it! It's also a great conversation starter. We have been sharing our new found hobby with our friends and families too! Thank you Hayneedle! Great product!

Comments about The Worm Factory® 4-Tray Recycled Plastic Worm Composter - Black:

Difficult to get the plastic pieces apart to put it together. The lid is flimsy, the nut that holds the spout doesn't fit.

It was really fun for my son to soak the core and ad the paper and worms. We enjoy watching the worms. Great family activity. Makes a huge mess at first, do it outside.

Comments about The Worm Factory® 4-Tray Recycled Plastic Worm Composter - Black:

I like it so far, but the lid warps a little even though I have the bed level. I think the lid is too thin and flimsy and should be more rigid. I would only recommend because it's a cool project esp to eliminate waste and if you have kids.

This is a great classroom project. The assembly instructions a clear, and it can be set up before the worms are ordered and arrive. Lots of opportunity for expanded lessons: food webs, decomposers, interactions, recycling, etc. It is odorless and doesn't take day-to-day care. Perfect for my 5th graders!

We have wanted to do some composting for quite awhile and we are also avid fishermen so this is a perfect solution for us. We love having our own compost and worm castings for our plants and have a blast catching fish with bait we raised ourselves!! We plan to have a few more to try other species of worms as well.

The product was exactly as pictured and put together easily. I followed the directions and my worms are thriving and working through my kitchen waste. I purchased it for school use in my Zoology class, so that I could add another environmental component to my curriculum.

                Customer Q & A

                3 Questions About This Product
Q: "How many worms do I need to purchase with the cascade compost bin?"
A: You should purchase about 1,000 worms to start your composter. After this initial purchase, the worm count will double every three months!
Q: "What is the total height of the 3 & 5 tray worm composter?"
A: The height on the 3 tray composter is 21 inches and on the 5 tray composter is 28 inches.
Q: "I ordered worms from you and they have arrived before my composter. What should I do with the worms until I get the compost bin?
A: The worms can last up to ten days in the packaging they arrived in. (Not the best, but they will last) Give them some water when they arrive.

If you're afraid they won't make it, you can make a temporary home for them instead. Put the worms into a plastic container about the size of a shoe box or bucket. Put some shredded black and white newsprint in the bottom that has been moistened (about the amount of a rung out sponge). This will act as food and bedding until your compost bin arrives and they can be placed into their new permanent home.
