Comments about The Worm Factory® 4-Tray Worm Composter - Terra Cotta:

Set up was easy! Just follow the directions. Worms came two days before my Worm factory, so I was worried, but the worms are happy now! Only neg. I can see, is that it isn't water proof. I have to now store it in the garage instead of in the back yard.

Comments about The Worm Factory® 4-Tray Worm Composter - Terra Cotta:

Well designed unit is easy to use. I've been using homemade, upward migration trays for a couple of years. This looks much classier. My wife thinks it looks like a worm pagoda. Looking forward to filling all my trays with castings and promiscuous worms.

Comments about The Worm Factory® 4-Tray Worm Composter - Terra Cotta:

I'm new to worm composting, so far so good. Just got my worms and am patiently waiting for them to start their thing. So far everything is on the up and up. No complaints yet. One thing that I wish I would have known is that you have to chop your kitchen scraps really small. This is a disappointment, as I was hoping to just dump stuff in there.

Comments about The Worm Factory® 4-Tray Worm Composter - Terra Cotta:

Love my worm factory. The worms seem to like it too. I've only had it a few weeks and already I'm seeing wonderful compost. I feed the worms vegetable scraps and all kinds of paper and they love it. Would highly recommend a worm factory for every household.

        worm vermicomposter

        • Small

        Cons

        • Insufficent lid

        Best Uses

        • For kitchen scraps

Comments about The Worm Factory® 4-Tray Worm Composter - Terra Cotta:

I've only been with my worm compost for a couple weeks, so the worms are still getting used to their new home. I don't yet know how well it works, but I'm satisfied with almost everything about it so far. I would prefer the lid be a little more substantial, my 14 month old son loves going over & picking it up & if I'm not there within 2 minutes- groodie stuff everywhere.

It's better than a rubbermaid tote

        By Worms Rock

        from Murrieta, CA

        Verified Buyer

        Pros

        • Easier to harvest casting
        • Good surface area
        • Lots of room for worms
        • Multi level

        Cons

        • Lid is not very useful

        Best Uses

        • Vermicomposting

Comments about The Worm Factory® 4-Tray Worm Composter - Terra Cotta:

This is ok as I expected a system that allowed more airflow. Once I put it together, I could not see how air could flow in from the bottom or the top. The lid is not very useful - it basically sits inside one of the trays on top of the compost, with no ventilation holes. Apparently air can escape from the gaps on the sides, so can the worms I imagine - what were they thinking when they designed it??? I think the multi levels will help in harvesting the worm castings, I suppose all in all, it is better than a rubbermaid tote.

        Not enough up front information

        By Fuzzy

        Pros

        • Works as promised

        Cons

        • They need to prepare you

        Best Uses

        • Composting

Comments about The Worm Factory® 4-Tray Worm Composter - Terra Cotta:

The worms are sold seperately and they don't tell you how many to buy. I recommend starting with 1/2 to 1 pound of worms. I started with 2 pounds and they wouldn't all fit. at [$] to [$] per pound, you should know how many to buy up front.

        Customer Q & A

        2 Questions About This Product
Q: "How many worms do I need to purchase with the cascade compost bin?"
A: You should purchase about 1,000 worms to start your composter. After this initial purchase, the worm count will double every three months!
Q: "I ordered worms from you and they have arrived before my composter. What should I do with the worms until I get the compost bin?
A: The worms can last up to ten days in the packaging they arrived in. (Not the best, but they will last) Give them some water when they arrive.

If you're afraid they won't make it, you can make a temporary home for them instead. Put the worms into a plastic container about the size of a shoe box or bucket. Put some shredded black and white newsprint in the bottom that has been moistened (about the amount of a rung out sponge). This will act as food and bedding until your compost bin arrives and they can be placed into their new permanent home.
