Comments about Celestron C5 127mm Astronomy Spotting Scope:

I use this scope to focus on a small humming bird that spends hours each day pearched in an oak tree at a distance of about 30 feet. the scope has a great close-up focus control for such a powerful scope.

This is my first SCT. I am really impressed. This a well engineered telescope, lightweight, easy to handle, easy to use, and provides very clear precise viewing for astronomical and terrestrial use. Also, I would like to compliment Telescopes.com for their excellent service, pricing and quick delivery.

Comments about Celestron C5 127mm Astronomy Spotting Scope:

I have made 4 reflecting telescopes and ground their mirrors ranging from 8 inches to 14 inches, so I was a little reluctant to see first-light through the C5.

All I can say is, "WOW"!

My first choice was the tips of some Sitka Spruce trees about 150 yards away. With the naked eye, everything looked black.

When I looked through the 25mm Plossl eyepiece included with this set, the true colors of the tree popped out like magic.

Every needle on the tree was crisp. Other details were also quite apparant. It was like viewing the tree from 2 feet away. Even the winged bug crawling up the top of the tree's stem showed graphic detail.

I mounted the spotter on my 3046 Bogen Tripod coupled with a 3039 head with a locking quick-release camera mount and felt that the scope was absolutely safe.

I can hardly wait to view the moon, planets and a few choice deep-sky objects tonight.

Comments about Celestron C5 127mm Astronomy Spotting Scope:

I bought the C5 for use as both a terrestrial and astronomic scope and it has proven to be very capable at both functions. The quality of the scope seems very high and the optics were aligned well from the factory. The only complaint I have is with the finderscope mount - the finderscope is a little too close to the main tube.

              Customer Q & A

              4 Questions About This Product
Q: "I'm planning to buy the Celestron C5 127mm. My purpose is to pair it with my SLR camera so I could have better shots. My questions are: 1. Is the T-adapter standard for all camera types? 2. Is the T-mount standard for all camera types, or is there a specific T-mount per camera model? 3. Are those the only two accessories needed to pair the Celestron C5 127mm with a camera?"
A: Yes.  You will only need those two pieces to begin astrophotography.  The T- adapter is a standard 1.25inch size that will fit on most current  telescopes.  The T-ring that attaches to your camera is going to have to fit the make and model of your camera.  T -rings are listed on our site by camera brand so they are easy to locate for you.  Once you have these two pieces, you are ready to thread them together on your telescope and begin taking pictures.
Q: "What optical coatings are on this scope?"
A: The Celestron C5 127mm Astronomy Spotting Scope has the StarBright XLT coatings.
Q: "Are there any plastic parts on this scope?"
A: The body is fully aluminum cast. The front and back exterior sealing rings are the only plastic pieces on the Celestron C5 127mm Astronomy Spotting Scope.
Q: "I love this scopes compact size, and the price is amazing, but how well would this scope work for astronomy? how many extra items will I need to use it for astrophotography?"
A: This would work very well for astronomy, all you would need is a tripod, and a nice set of eyepieces.  The eyepiece this comes with is 25mm, which you could use to look at the stars, but you would want something smaller for doing astrophotography.  Celestron makes a fantastic eyepiece and filter kit that would give you all your options (CELE209).  As for taking pictures, it all depends on the camera.  If you are using a small or medium digital camera, just get a Digiscoping Adapter.  If you are using a SLR camera, then you would look into getting a T-Ring Adapter as well as a T-Ring that would work for your camera.
