Frankly, I wish I had come upon these earlier. A few months ago, I purchased a similar binocular (15 X 70)from another manufacturer, with similar specs. They were highly satisfactory, but cost about 5 times as much, and were noticeably heavier. I don't think the view was 5 times as good, and I had to invest in a sturdy tripod mount as well, making for extra weight (and cost!). At 12X magnification, these can be handheld for short periods, and a standard tripod is adequate for the 3 lb weight.
For 90% of binocular Astronomy, the Cometron 12 X 70 can hold its own with units costing far more. For anyone watching their money (and who isn't, these days?) this may be all the binocular you will need.

This is basically a copy paste of the review I just wrote on the Celestron 15x70's I just wrote, as I just bought 2 pairs of binos. These and the 15x70 (for me and the wife).

These binos are virtually identical to the 15x70's with just a bit less magnifying power. I actually prefer these over the 15x.

          The good
          - Very light for their size.
          - Images are very sharp, focused!

          The not so good.
          - The focusing mechanism is cheaply made... be careful with these if you want them to last 20-30 years. But for the price, they get the job done very well.
          - The lens covers don't attach very well at all.
          - The eye piece cover is pretty much a joke.
          - The carry bag is a 10 cent piece of vinyl. But it's better than nothing! :)

          The Really bad.
          - The tripod mount is a flimsy piece of plastic. Just throw the worthless thing away and spend $20 on a good steel one. Really.

Overall, VERY VERY good value for the money. Just think of the "low" price you pay for the binos themselves, which is a fantastic deal.
All the extras that come with it are free - and are not worth more than - free. Interpret that however you want.

          Buy these.

I have a pair of SkyMaster 15X70's and saw these last week. I like the lower power in 70mm. Did a little work this last weekend and the Pleiades was a perfect fit. I know ISON is a little dim for these currently, but the bino's will be perfect in October and November.
