Comments about Celestron CrossAim Reticle Eyepiece:

Arrived, unpacked, batteries dead. New batteries inserted, LED flickered when on/off switch in certain position. Otherwise, nothing. Unscrewed the barrel 1/4-turn. Light! No... wiring is bad. Broken and shorting solder points. Run, don't walk, away from this piece of garbage. Maybe good in the past, but whoever makes them now makes them to be replaced.

Comments about Celestron CrossAim Reticle Eyepiece:

The crosshairs didn't illuminate at first, but after bending out the prong in the battery compartment so that it would make contact with the batteries, it worked fine. It appears to be a well made, precision eyepiece that will certainly help obtain accurate star alignment with my 8SE. Still waiting for clear skies to put it to a real test.

Comments about Celestron CrossAim Reticle Eyepiece:

I picked this model for a reticle eyepiece because of its advertised 10 mm eye relief which is much longer than that of some alternatives. It is more comfortable to use than my 10 mm Plossl which has 6.5 mm eye relief. Turning the focussing ring brings the reticle into sharp focus. Brightness can be adjusted continuously, not just in steps. Minimum brightness is all I need. All in all, the CrossAim is every bit as good as I expected it to be.

One suggestion for the shipping department. Celestron packages the eyepiece and illuminator in a flimsy cardboard box. The shipping clerk dropped the box into a padded envelope and sent it off. When the envelope arrived, I found the box, eyepiece and illuminator floating around separately inside. There was no damage since the eyepiece has caps for both ends and the illuminator was inside a small tube of bubble wrap. Taping something around the box, even a sheet of paper, would keep the box closed and the parts inside.
