Bought this telescope after a while searching for a good first telescope and it was a very good choice loved it and got to advance my astronomy hobby but the only bad thing about it is it wiggles with wind can be cut down if you add weight to the accessory tray thats the only reason i gave it a four star for. it was frustration with the alignment it was never accurate with the three stars align but got a star program and find my way around stars to align it using the two stars system after that it worked perfect.

I spent 25 minutes unpacking the box and assembling the scope, only to discover that one of the vanes that supports the elliptical mirror was bent, apparently during assembly at the factory. I sent in a request to Celestron support immediately, but have yet to hear back (it's been 3 days).

On the positive side, even with the bent support and things slightly out of alignment, I was able to make out the color bands of Jupiter and see 4 of its moons. The smart alignment was slow and I wasn't successful in using it. I ran out of tries after awhile, as the controller became impossible to read once it cooled down and the display slowed to the point that scrolling text was all blurred. Granted, it was about 18 degrees, but one would expect this to be considered in the design.

For now, I'm pretty disappointed in the product, but I will update this once their support gets back in touch with me on a resolution.

Comments about Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Computerized Telescope:

Item undamaged, functions properly. The Sky Align worked after I programmed the correct closest city, so be careful. Saw Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Orion Nebula, the moon on first night. I wish I had bought the accessory bundle when I got the telescope. It seems as if higher power eyepieces or a Barlow eyepiece are needed to see planets really well, so I'm going to pick those up. So far I am happy with it. I got it as a first telescope for the family including a five-year old, so the tracking feature is really useful.

First telescope. Easy to set up. I'm not that familiar with astronomy so the computerized object finder is great. It aligned easily once I got all the information loaded. Pretty easy to use and easy to setup. Lots of features for the money.

            Customer Q & A

            12 Questions About This Product
Q: "Can I use an erecting eye piece on this to make the image upright?"
A: Yes, as long as it is the erecting eyepiece it will work to correct the image in any reflector.
Q: "I live in an area with several companies with lights. I also have several street lights near my house. I can see a few stars by eye. Will I still be able to see enough to make buying this telescope worth while? Will a bigger telescope better overcome the background light problem?"
A: "Worthwhile" is a relativistic term. What I will tell you is that we have customers who use their 14 inch scopes off of balconies on Manhattan Island (light and pollution everywhere) and they love their telescopes. They still hate light pollution, but they love and use the scopes.
Q: "I am thinking about getting the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT. Is it capable of doing more stuff then the NexSar 60, 80, 102, and 114 SLT and in what ways? Also, if I get the Nexstar 130 SLT, I was going to get the Celestron Eyepiece and Filter Kit - 1.25 Inch Format. Will the kit match up with the telescope and is it duplicating what I would be getting with the telescope? The telescope's user level is listed as intermediate, but I would say that I am at a beginner level, would that be an impediment for me in operating the telescope?"
A: A telescope with a 130mm aperture, such as the NexStar 130SLT has, is capable of gathering more light than one with a smaller primary mirror. Hence, you'll be able to see more distant objects, and your views of closer objects will be brighter under high magnification. The 130 SLT is intermediate in capability, but that doesn't mean a beginner can't operate it. The GoTo feature should simplify finding celestial objects for you. The eyepiece & filter kit will work nicely with the 130SLT. You will be duplicating the 9mm eyepiece, but since that's one you'll be using often, it might be a good idea to have a spare.
Q: "Can this telescope see planets, nebula's, galaxies and other deep space objects?"
A: Yes, Celestron's NexStar 130 SLT will let you see deep-space objects. Every telescope has limitations, however, and the NexStar 130 is no exception. Its 5.12-inch optics will allow it to see out to Magnitude 13+. That's enough to bring in light from about 15 million stars, but a telescope with larger optics will bring in more.
Q: "Can you take pictures with this telescope?"
A: Although this scope cannot take pictures out of the box, you can take pictures with the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT provided you have the necessary accessories such as a CCD imager or camera adapters.
Q: "What length is the telescope tube on the Nexstar 130 SLT?"
A: The length of the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT telescope's optical tube is about 26 inches.
Q: "I have the NexStar 80SLT. Will it be possible to buy just the tube and use it with the mount that came with my 80 SLT?"
A: Unfortunately, the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT optical tube is not available by itself.
Q: "What is the size of the complete set i.e. tube and the tripod?"
            A: The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT telescope's shipping size is 40 x 20 x 11 inches. Shipping weight is 35 pounds.
Q: "How easy is it to learn to use the star align?"
A: The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT telescope is easy for a novice to use. You'll have it up and running within a half hour. You'll need a good set of eyepieces and filters to get the most from your scope.
Q: "What is the maximum payload capacity of this mount?"
A: The mount on the Nexstar 130 is not recommended to hold any other telescope.   The mount is designed only for the 130mm barrel.   The mount is strong enough to hold a camera adapter and a camera for astrophotography but additional weight is not suggested with this mount design.
Q: "If I take the telescope in and out of my house then do I need do the star align each time?"
A: The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Telescope will save the coordinates originally entered but you will still need to three star align every time the unit is powered up.
Q: "Is this telescope of such size and weight the it would be considered to be a "grab and go"?"
A: The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Telescope
weighs 34lbs total and is considered to be a very portable telescope.
