I'm very happy with my new Celestron 20x80 SkyMaster binoculars. I'm new to astronomy and decided to get a decent pair of astro binocs for wide-field observing. The moon and star clusters are amazing to view through the big binoculars. There a bit heavy, almost six pounds, but I adapted an inexpensive digital camera tripod and made a binocular mount. The mount features a hinged platform for a Rigel QuikFinder.Brent Allen Parrish[@]

I got these binoculars to look at ships on the ocean from our beach house. I keep them mounted on a tripod. They provide good magnification, and a clear image. I find them hard to focus tough; the focus ring is very sloppy on center.

I've been enjoying them for several months, until the tripod mount adapter on the binoculars stripped out. It's made of aluminum, and is too light for binoculars as heavy as these. Not sure what I'll do if I can't get a replacement. They are too big for me to hand hold

Comments about Celestron SkyMaster 20x80mm Center Focus Binoculars:

These are my second pair of binos, I used to own a pair of SkyMaster 15x70 that were great and this time I wanted to take a leap in performance so I went for the 20x80.

This pair gathers 23.5% more light than the 15x70's so you don't expect a huge difference in brightness in comparisson, but it's enough to see "a bit more", and at 20x power they allow you to see clearly the moons of Júpiter and split easily binary stars for example.

Optic quality is good enough for this price range, lenses are not fully multi coated, but they are multi coated so contrast and sharpness is far superior than that of cheaper binoculars, image is clear and sharp across 85% or so of the field of view.

Build quality is good as well, the pair feels solid and sturdy, and focus keeps its position even if I press the eyecups of the eyepieces against my face, these really feel like they can last many many years.

Usability and portability, they are BIG, no question about that, and quite heavy too, but at lest for me they are still extremely portable (you can't compare its portability against that of a telescope)and quite handholdable for a certain period of time, of course a good tripod, or even better, a parallelogram mount is highly recommended.

Suggestion: for easier handhold sessions, grab the binos by the front section of the tubes where the objective lenses are rather than the back end where the prisms are.

To sum up, a great pair of binoculars, with very decent quality construction and high quality optics and image at a great price, this are a great choice for the budget stargazer

            Customer Q & A

            2 Questions About This Product
Q: "These Binoculars are "water resistant" rather than waterproof. Will a sudden change in temperature produce condensation within the instrument?"
A: It is possible that fogging will result of a temperature change from cool to warm. It's important to note that "water resistant" is the same as "weather proofed" in that they can handle moisture and small amounts of exposure to water (rain, etc.) but prolonged exposure may result in water penetrating the binocular.
Q: "How do I determine what power is the strongest? I want something maybe twice as strong as the average binoculars most retailers sell?"
A: The Celestron SkyMaster 20x80 Center Focus Binoculars have a power of 20x, while the most popular binoculars are 8x or 10x.
