    This is a tool no one should be without. As a secondary collimation tool used to test accuracy of laser collimators and as a primary for those who are not concerned with the fine tuned focus a laser provides. It covers all three aspects of collimation. The one report of it not being useful for secondary collimation is not accurate. It just takes some patients and a little practice.

    The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is I would like it to be a little tighter fit in the EP barrel. I find that it wobbles a little. To get the most accurate result I let the sight tube go all the way in so that it is flush with the focuser. Then use the focus to extend the tool the proper distance from the secondary.

    two OTAs and two eyepieces with the same result. I can only hope the out-of-box collimation is good and that I can also do nighttime collimation.

      I've been using a similar collimation eyepiece I bought for a pittance, but realized it was itself not well aligned (the intersection of its crosshairs did not remain fixed if I rotated the eyepiece in the sight tube). The new eyepiece has clearer crosshairs, and they appear to be dead-on (intersection not affected by rotation). The instructions are clear, though as everyone says, it takes a little while to get your head into what you are seeing). I found that whereas my secondary mirror appeared to be well centered both from looking into the focussing tube without an eyepiece, and with my former collimation eyepiece, it was immediately apparent with the new one that the secondary mirror needed to be repositioned along the tube axis. So I'm a happy camper.

            When I purchased this I did not expect too much. I read up on the subject, and knew what I was purchasing. This is a simple tool for helping to align the mirrors of a telescope, nothing more, nothing less, and it does that just fine. There are no lasers for alignment, or even any real optics, but it works.

              So I had a mishap with my C-8 that required a re-alignment of my telescops mirrors. Took me 20 minutes for a first attempt. The instructions that came with the tool were clear and consise and figuring out how to make the dots and circles move was a snap. If you need a collimation tool and you're not sure if you need all the bells and whistles of the laser devices, this is the tool to get.
