Forewarned by previous reviews,I was able to download assembly instructions from the Char-Griller web site. It took us about 2 hrs to complete the 14 steps with everything finger tight. Another 1/2 hour on Sun for the final tightening. 2 hrs @ 250 degrees to cure and we were off to grillin'. Very pleased with the results. heats up in a hurry, sears beautifully, love them grill marks. Working on techniques to maintain lower temps. So far it has been only the two of us,but, I can see where this rig is up to cookin' for a crowd w/o difficulty. [...] You can purchase this same grill elsewhere. The question is, Why would you?

I was not completley happy with this grill. It looks good, but I have had to make several modifications to address specific issues that could have been avoided with a little thought by the manufacturer. First, the upper warming rack is very flimsy, and cannot support much weight. It will not support a rack of ribs or a chicken, and is best suited for only buns. Secondly, the flame is too close to the grill surface, and as a result it is difficult to slow cook even on low heat. Third, because of the two stacks, heat exits the unit quickly, and it is difficult to do slow roasting of chickens. I have had to modify the grill by reinforcing the warming rack, installing a rack and layer of porcelin brickets on top of the flame tubes to even out the heat, and by putting vent covers on top of the stacks. Each of these issues could have easily been addressed by the manufacturer.

Comments about Char-Griller Grillin Pro 4001 with Grill Cover:

The directions to put the grill together are vague. Had to take it apart twice to get it right - not in the proper order. Also missing parts and had to use our own nuts and washers and cotter pins. Contains 39 screws and 33 washers - Why?? Seems like it will be a great grill - heavy duty but even the lighting instructions are incomplete. Need to reach behind the grill to turn on the propane. Suggest you buy one pre-assembled since it took 4+ hours to assemble.

Comments about Char-Griller Grillin Pro 4001 with Grill Cover:

I've had this grill for about 2yrs. outside with Char-griller cover. The grills and drip-shields are totally shot and will cost almost half the price of a new grill to replace. Have enjoyed it but it's just a typical 2-3yr. throw-away.

Comments about Char-Griller Grillin Pro 4001 with Grill Cover:

Love this grille !!!!!
Hate to change the gas tank, The hole that the tank sits in, and all the brackets around it, are made to exacting tolerances....
therefore if you get a tank that has a ring around the bottom that is slightly bent in any way,
you will smash the living bejesus out of your fingers trying to get the tank in or out.
All they have to do is make the hole slightly larger and this problem would not exist....
Would have given this grille a 5 star, but, my broken purple thumb nail dropped it down one.
