Comments about Kettler Classic Flyer 12 in. Retro Bike:

Not sure how many stars to give it because I had some problems with putting the bike together and there were parts missing. So for the nuisance it caused to put it together and replace the missing parts from the seat mount I give it only 2 stars. However once the bike was put together it was the most awesome bike ever- definitely 5 stars here. My 3 year-old son loved it from the moment he saw it. The bike is pretty heavy so it stays put on the road and does not tilt. In spite of being heavy it's pretty maneuverable. It's really an old-fashined, classic bike with the brakes in the pedals (you pedal backwards to stop) and riding it gives my son a ton of fun. Every now and then I do have to tighten the screws on the pedals and the training wheels but I guess that would happen with every bike. Hayneedle was prompt with their delivery, the only complaint I have is that the box was damaged and some parts must have fallen out. It was delivered by FedEx and I seem to have no luck with FedEx deliveries. I managed to get through all these obstacles and now it's the best purchase I made for my son!

Comments about Kettler Classic Flyer 12 in. Retro Bike:

First of all Hayneedle was great, and they did offer the cheapest price on this bike I could find on the internet. Now onto the actual bike...

I bought this middle-priced bike because the cheaper ones just seemed, well, cheap - and couldn't afford the upper-end bikes plus my son is turning 3 so I researched and found that 5-7 is when you should dump the money on a great bike because they'll have it longer. at 3 they will grow out of it in two years.

I was excited because of its retro look and simple design, plus the quick-release seat and included bar padding.

After loosely assembling the bike before tightening all the bolts I realized that the sprocket was warped just enough to make the chain slip off. Then I realized that it just would NOT crank hardly at all, it was very tight. The directions didnt give info on the adjustment of the crank so luckily I had prior experience with BMX bikes. I even took the chain off and it was still binding, so I loosened the sprocket bolt and it spun freely, then tightened it again and for some reason it's spinning better. It's still not as freely spinning as I'd like but it's better than it was. NOW I get the chain on and adjust the rear wheel and tighten it up. The chain is a normal tension, and the rear wheel sounds like its got gravel in the hub or something, and doesn't spin for longer than 10 seconds.

Overall what I'm trying to say is - it just doesn't feel like it's working right, and since my sons birthday is around the corner and I have no time to order him another bike I'm stuck at the mercy of this one and hope it holds up but I'm seriously doubting it. Whoever is running quality control should've easily caught that warped sprocket and the fact that the rear hub didn't spin very freely. Hopefully these things won't hinder my sons enjoyment AND his 3rd birthday.

P.S. It IS the cutest thing you've ever seen though, even if it doesn't work right. Thats why I gave it a 2-star instead of 1
