About Fir Wood
Fir has characteristics very similar to Cedar. Well known for its combination of stability and light weight, it is commonly used in furniture, both here and abroad. While being naturally weather-resistant, it may be further stained or finished to endure and age gracefully for many years. If left unfinished, the wood will fade to a silver gray when used outdoors. Like Cedar, the grain is usually straight and displays prominent growth rings and knots.

These are lightweight chairs and a bargain for the money. I shopped all over before purchasing. They really smelled good when we unpacked them (like a cedar smell). I suggest that you paint them before use as they are unfinished. I am also going to use carpenters glue as I assemble to give them more strength and they will then hold up longer since we are then going to have a friend paint murals on them with parrots and palm trees. Can't wait to see the finished products. Very pleased with purchase ! !

Hayneedle was flawless in the processing of our order and our chairs arrived within a week. We chose unfinished chairs so that we could customize the color. Assembly was simple and it took no more than 20 minutes to assemble each chair. The chairs are attractive but we do have concerns over the apparent strength of the wood. You can hear the wood creak under stress as you get into or out of the seat. We are hoping that is just the chair breaking in and not breaking. Being that I weigh under 200 pounds, it comes as a shock that the chairs would not support my weight. Other than that we are happy with the comfort and appearance of the chairs.

Order through delivery was easy and fast. Received within three/four days of order. Assembly was easy but I did make one mistake so make sure you look closely at the pictured instruction. Reword took two minutes. Just need to paint/stain, set back and enjoy.

Chairs arrived promptly, packaged well. Assembly was easy, took about 30 minutes for the first one, 15-20 for each subsequent one. The seat and back come already assembled, so you are only putting them together with the chair's legs and armrests. The one big drawback: On 2 of 4 chairs I ordered, either holes were drilled slightly off, or pieces were cut slightly off on length. This required me to drill new holes or cut 1/8th inch off the wood pieces to make them fit together correctly. With a chair halfway built, I was faced with the option of disassembling it, boxing it back up and shipping it back for a replacement, or getting out my drill and table saw to make it right. MUCH easier to fix it myself, but really I should not have had to do this. I'll be calling the company to see if I can obtain some refund or credit for the hassle.
