Comments about Country Heights Swivel Bar Stool:
I just bought 6 of these, and they are good chairs. Much wider than I thought they would be, but that is great since I wanted a very solid chair. The padding is good, and the chairs are comfortable. The swivel movement is very smooth, and it feels like a solid component.
If you do not run into any manufacturing flaws, then assembly will take about 20-30 minutes per chair. It is pretty simple: 18 bolts and 4 screws. You will need a phillips screw driver for the 4 small screws, and an allen wrench (which is included with each chair) for the bolts. However, I highly recommend getting a ratchet with a 5/32" allen tip attachment. If you do not have one, then be ready to do a million tiny turns with their little allen wrench for each bolt. It will take you much longer to assemble if you use their wrench.
Hint #1: Even if the box and internal packaging are in perfect shape, check all the wooden pieces closely! Out of the 6 chairs, 2 had major damage that obviously existed before they were boxed. One chair had a seat back that was fractured in 2 places, like someone had dropped something very heavy on it and the wood just splintered. On another chair, the swivel section had 2 boards split lengthwise. You cannot tell from the pictures, but the "swivel" portion is like 2 wagon wheels with 4 spokes each. The bottom wagon wheel connects to the legs, and the top to the seat cushion. 2 of these spokes were cracked horizontally - which was tough to notice since stain had been applied over them. I noticed when I sat on the assembled chair and it made creaking noises. I looked underneath while pressing down on the seat and then saw the cracks open up.
Hint #2: When assembling the legs to the swivel, do not finger tighten the screws as the instructions state. You need them to be much looser than that so that you can slide the footrest ring into place.
Hint #3: The seat cushion screws into the top wagon wheel of the swivel via simple L-shaped brackets, which are about an inch long on each leg of the "L". The brackets are pre-installed on the swivel with small screws, and all you have to do is screw the cushion to those. On almost all the chairs, one or more of these brackets were installed too high, above the top of the swivel, and the cushion would not lay down against the wood. I had to go unscrew those, and reattach them lower. So check those before you blindly go attaching the cushion.
I combined the components of the 2 broken chairs to make one good one, and returned the resulting broken chair.
My only nit to hayneedle is that they do not refund till they get their chair physically, and I have to pay $10 more today then I did yesterday since the sale price expired. Again a nit, but gimme a break.
Overall, the chair once assembled is very sturdy and strong, and I have no doubt that they will survive whoever you put into it. I was a little disappointed by the number of manufacturing flaws, so I am giving it a 4.
