Comments about Dura-Trel 179 Gallon Vinyl White Compost Bin:

So, after edging all of our landscaping beds with a shovel and needing a place for the discarded sod and dirt, I bit the bullet and bought this compost bin after hours of searching online for the right product for our corner lot 1/4 acre yard in the 'burbs and discovered this beauty. Pricey but a must have for the discarded yard waste now and subsequent yard waste year after year. Beware. As many reviews have stated, assembly is required and it does take time and patience and energy...and 2 people are better and easier than one. My wife is the handy one with tools and I am the landscaping machine in the family so we studied the instructions and went to work in our concrete-floored, flat garage. Flat is a must! She used a drill for new pilot holes and for screwing in the screws for fastening and it took both of us to manage it and did it in 60 minutes. Not bad. Looks great. Build the front and then the back and then fasten to each other in full sections to make it easier but line all up first before screwing them together as they shift on you. Just filled the whole thing up today with my yard waste and hosed it off and it looks better than my white-sided home! For real! Very sturdy and presentable and the venting should allow for quick conversion to rich dirt for my veggie garden. I highly recommend this product to anyone with a green or even less than green thumb. Happy gardening, all!

Comments about Dura-Trel 179 Gallon Vinyl White Compost Bin:

So much nicer to look at than those black barrels or wire cages. Sturdy and heavy enough to stand up to wind, but can be picked up and moved. Easy cleanup with damp paper towel. Lots of space open to air, sun, and rain, looks taller in picture than it is. Easy to remove front panels--try coming at an angle from the inside toward center to slide bars in and out. All one large space except for center crossbars top and bottom, no floor. I only marked it down one star because while the directions were pretty good (not as good as for the Dura-Trel trellis), I still got confused. It is really a job for two people, but I succeeded in the end. I had to put it together to make sure I was doing it right before screwing it together, then take it apart and start again from the beginning. Be very careful when screwing the side bars into the front corner posts because the front removeable bars need every bit of room. I pushed each front bar flat against the corner post far wall before positioning and screwing in the corresponding side bar. Best to drill pilot holes for the screws.

Comments about Dura-Trel 179 Gallon Vinyl White Compost Bin:

We just started composting at our animal shelter this year with a smaller CompostBins.com bin. This experiment went so well, and we were so happy with the first bin, that we purchased a second, larger bin. We take in 5000-7000 animals per year and have 44 employees, so we generate a variety of organic waste which we now compost.

Comments about Dura-Trel 179 Gallon Vinyl White Compost Bin:

It took me about 2 hours to assemble this composter. Don't screw anything in until you have it centered exactly. Make sure the front slats slide back and forth BEFORE screwing in the side slats. I really love it, looks much better than some old boards slapped together.
