I bought this house for 3 stray cats who need protection from tropical rains and to keep their food dry. They love it! I raised it up so the cats hide underneath, they use the inside and sit on the roof. It was so easy to assemble. I added a layer of polyurethane for extra protection. To decorate, I put big wooden letters on the front that say "Cats" and added a cat siloette. It is so cute!

I have an eight month old German Shepherd who likes to bite. From day one, this pup started gnawing on the sides, door opening, edges of roof, you name it. Finally, after having the dog house for approx 5 months, the pup took off the entire front wall. It fell to pieces. Prior to this, the dog really didn't go into the house except to chew and I did feel that the wood was flimsy from the day I installed it. It is a good looking house however. Maybe good product for a dog who doesn't have a biting issue, but not for a hyper pup. Need somehting 'chew-proof'. Maybe one of those igloos, even though they are hidious.

Very lightweight

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Cedar Smells Good
  • Dog Likes It
  • Easy To Set Up

Cons

  • Flimsy Design

Best Uses

  • Mild Weather

I was expecting this doghouse to be something that could handle weather in the wintertime, but it is very lightweight and very thin wood. One of the edges on the roof was knocked off during shipping? and the floorboards have spaces in between them, I guess to let dirt and whatever fall through the floor? When my dad flies down to visit, we will be picking up a piece of plywood and doubling up the walls and floor definitely, and putting an insulating board under the roof also.

Pros

Cons

  • Flimsy Design
  • Inadequate Insulation
  • Poor Quality

Best Uses

I got the Giant size and I'm not sure the floor will hold up under a very large dog. Fairly easy to assemble but the wood is thin and splinters easily. I don't expect this to last very long.

Not the best quality built dog house!

Planks are very thin and even have some spaces in between them. Floor boards are a bit flimsy and I worry if it can even hold my 90 pound dog well. Terrible oder is coming from the roof shingles; either rubber, oil or glue! Was even able to smell it when still in the box! Dimensions on box are outside dimensions including roof which overhangs a few inches on each side, therefore space is much smaller than I thought and even though I bought the large, my lab barely fits!

The dog house came as scheduled and was very easy to assemble. The only thing I would suggest is the screws that was preassembled by the company be longer. Several screws fell out and had to replace with store bought screws I already had. The floor could be a little more sturdy or additional support for the weight. All in all I am very happy with this purchase. Only time will tell if it will with stand the weather here in Georgia.

Not as sturdy as they claim!

Pros

  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Flimsy Design

Best Uses

The sides are very thin slats, pre set screws popped out. I had to use my own glue and screws. Hay needle was very understanding. I ended up keeping it, since I already did a major reinforcement job. Couldn't wait for another dog house or different kind. I suggest going with a plastic style dog house, this one won't last as long as a plastic one.

    Customer Q & A

    5 Questions About This Product
Q: "I have a husky in the Ft. Worth, TX area. Would it be better for me to get the Extreme Outback Log Cabin or the standard Outback Log Cabin?"
A: We would recommend the Extreme Outback Log Cabin for the highest desired comfort.   Both items have numerous similarities such as both being designed of fir wood, both houses assemble in 3 easy steps, and numerous size options are available.
Q: "How do I choose a size for a dog that is about 60 pounds? ?"
A: A medium sized dog house would be recommended as it can hold up to 70 pounds.
Q: "Is this dog house appropriate for 20-30 degree temperatures?"
A: This dog house is only wood, and only 3/4 inch thick. With conditions like that, we suggest getting an insulation kit. The Log Cabin Style Dog House Insulation Kit, item number PPP092, goes with this dog house.
Q: "How big a house do I need for 3 stray cats?"
A: A small should do just fine.  If you wanted a little more room a medium would be more than enough room.
Q: "What is the difference between the Precision Extreme and the Extreme Outback Log Cabin Dog house?"
A: The difference is the the Extreme Outback Log Cabin with Black Trim is bigger than the Precision Extreme Outback Log Cabin Dog House.
