I bought this house for 3 stray cats who need protection from tropical rains and to keep their food dry. They love it! I raised it up so the cats hide underneath, they use the inside and sit on the roof. It was so easy to assemble. I added a layer of polyurethane for extra protection. To decorate, I put big wooden letters on the front that say "Cats" and added a cat siloette. It is so cute!

I have an eight month old German Shepherd who likes to bite. From day one, this pup started gnawing on the sides, door opening, edges of roof, you name it. Finally, after having the dog house for approx 5 months, the pup took off the entire front wall. It fell to pieces. Prior to this, the dog really didn't go into the house except to chew and I did feel that the wood was flimsy from the day I installed it. It is a good looking house however. Maybe good product for a dog who doesn't have a biting issue, but not for a hyper pup. Need somehting 'chew-proof'. Maybe one of those igloos, even though they are hidious.

I could not be happier with the Precision Extreme Outback Log Cabin dog houses that I purchased. They were easy to assemble (I intentionally left the roof detachable to make cleaning out the inside easier) and they look great. They are actually being used as shelter for a colony of homeless cats that we care for... I added a tape-covered (didn't have any water sealer handy) 5 1/2" high piece of wood across the bottom of the door opening (screwed it into the door frame) to keep rain from splashing in when it hits the pavement and then placed a 2nd cardboard "floor" with towels on top for some added comfort and warmth. Already having this same type of house (just larger) set up for them for the past 2+ years, the cats were accustomed to "the look" so there wasn't anything that spooked them about the new ones. One more thing to add: I was equally pleased with the helpfulness of the Hayneedle rep when she took my order and how quickly the merchandise was delivered.

This is actually the third one that I purchased. The last two have been sitting in the backyard porch for 5 years housing rambunctious 65 lbs dogs and still stand fine and solid. The third one is for the foster dog. They perfectly line up and look good. Dogs love to go in and out. It is extremely important that a dog has a place to call his own and feels safe. Hayneedle had the best price and the shipping was very fast.

As described, good looking and good quality. Just wish the floor was a little more solid, seems weak.

I picked this dog house because of the offset door to give more protection from the cold whenever my pup is out. The insulation kit fits perfectly for extra protection. Light-weight and easy to put together!

          Customer Q & A

          5 Questions About This Product
Q: "I have a husky in the Ft. Worth, TX area. Would it be better for me to get the Extreme Outback Log Cabin or the standard Outback Log Cabin?"
A: We would recommend the Extreme Outback Log Cabin for the highest desired comfort.   Both items have numerous similarities such as both being designed of fir wood, both houses assemble in 3 easy steps, and numerous size options are available.
Q: "How do I choose a size for a dog that is about 60 pounds? ?"
A: A medium sized dog house would be recommended as it can hold up to 70 pounds.
Q: "Is this dog house appropriate for 20-30 degree temperatures?"
A: This dog house is only wood, and only 3/4 inch thick. With conditions like that, we suggest getting an insulation kit. The Log Cabin Style Dog House Insulation Kit, item number PPP092, goes with this dog house.
Q: "How big a house do I need for 3 stray cats?"
A: A small should do just fine.  If you wanted a little more room a medium would be more than enough room.
Q: "What is the difference between the Precision Extreme and the Extreme Outback Log Cabin Dog house?"
A: The difference is the the Extreme Outback Log Cabin with Black Trim is bigger than the Precision Extreme Outback Log Cabin Dog House.
