Very good product!!! Our back patio gets some major gusts in North Texas and we had a different brand - wood "offset" umbrella that just couldn't bend with the wind, as you would expect, and we ended trashing it after 1 year. The fiberglass construction is MANDATORY and has already proven itself priceless. We had some major wind the other day and the umbrella turned inside out with zero damage to anything - as I purchased it for. I just pushed it back down and it was back to normal shape. I can see that the quality of this piece will definitely hold up and I recommend the fiberbuilt line 100%. Make sure you have a heavy base - I recommend 75lb - IT WILL TAKE FLIGHT if you don't have it secure, but then again its 11' so you need to secure accordingly. It's fairly lightweight and the material is high quality. I don't mind paying a little more for quality and this item does deliver.

This is most definitely NOT a wind resistant umbrella. It's good at taking falls FROM the wind I suppose.

I have two of these screwed into stainless steel anchors embedded in the pool decking. The very first day we got some 10mph gusts of wind and while the fabric and fiberglass held up fine the poles folded just above the point where the two pieces sleeve together. I can say the ribs are awesome because they took a hit which would have trashed anything else. However, the plastic hub, plastic pins, and plastic anchors are another week link as one pin sheared on the hit letting a rib come loose from the hub.

So here's how I made this a true wind resistant umbrella. I went and bought two 100" pieces of 1.5" stainless pole with a 65mil wall for about $60 each. Then we drilled and tapped holes to mount all the hardware on these poles with stainless steel bolts. Finally I used stainless pins in the hub to hold all the ribs together in place.

Now the umbrellas stay put in even 15-20mpg gusts. If anything they invert from the lift on the fabric and the hub has to pulled back down. We fixed this with a simple velcro strap that holds the hub against the cotter pin.

With all this reinforcement either the next thing to go will be the sunbrella stitching or the stainless steel anchor in the cement.

Anyways, the moral of the story is that Aluminum is NOT strong once it starts to bend a little. And the aluminum used in these poles was not of the highest quality to begin with.

Either use these where they won't get more than 10mph of wind or crack out the tool kit and do some modding.

Comments about FiberBuilt Premium 11-ft. Wind Resistant Aluminum Market Umbrella:

This umbrella is very well made. I haven't tested it in windy conditions yet. The only drawback is that it takes two of us to open it. I think it would make more sense to have a hand crank to raise it. Otherwise I'm very satisfied with the purchase.

We needed a wind worthy umbrella and this has worked very well. It is used in a Shademobile rolling umbrella base with the maximum weight configuration. This is a great combination!

This is the best umbrellas we've ever had; certainly wind resistant, high quality canopy and good looking. A bit tough to raise but OK given the other great attributes.

Buying a second one for our patio.
