Comments about Sport DOG Dog Field Trainer Stubborn:

We got a new dog, a Pomeranian mix, thinks he is the center of the universe. He learned that 'come' means run away as fast as you can. We tried various means to get him not to run away, including keeping him tied up - he chewed through the rope.

So we tried the Field Trainer dog collar. We were amazed at how effective it was. The lowest settings did nothing at first, but after just two good jolts at level five, he would come instantly upon hearing the beep. Next we stopped using the beep to get him trained to the command 'come' rather than the beep. Again, after just two applications, he would come instantly on command.

He started running away again after three or four months, so back on goes the collar. One jolt on a low setting was all that was needed as a reminder.

Is it humane? It's less traumatic than any other negative reinforcement I can think of. And positive reinforcements didn't work on this critter. Way better than getting hit by a car.

Two thumbs up for this product.

Comments about Sport DOG Dog Field Trainer Stubborn:

My father got this collar for our hunting dog Lexy. The product works great but, you have to use it correctly. Do some research before you shock away.

Your main goal is to make the dog to associate the "beep" with, stop what your doing and listen to me. And not to hurt the dog, trying to get it to do what you want.

Dogs like "men" can become extremely focused on something and have the (dis)ability to completely block everything else out.

Ever find yourself in a situation when you didn't remember hearing someone calling for you while watching the game, or yelling after that stupid dog who wouldn't stop chasing that rabbit?

It's all the same thing and it is believed to be a basic hunting instinct, so we can better listen for prey and danger.

So, use this collar to interrupt this mental state.

      *The basic strategy*
Start by calling out to the dog with "come!" If there is no response use the "beep" and call again. If there is still no response then use the lowest shock setting, call, then the beep, call, then a higher setting, and so on.

It shouldn't take too long for the dog to figure out that the man with the thumbs, who put the collar on them in the first place, is calling and a not-so-pleasant feeling comes after the "beep."

The sooner you start training your dog, the better.

Also, the lowest setting isn't painful; ours has about the same sensation as when you lick a 9V battery.

      ---------
Something to look into if you are new to training dogs, is to invest in a good a whistle. Replace you "COME!" and "STAY!" With short whistle bursts and one long blow.

This will help communicate commands over farther distances and if you ever find yourself stuck in a ditch it can let fellow hunters (and dog) know where you are.

      Be smart and stay safe.

      Amazing!

Comments about Sport DOG Dog Field Trainer Stubborn:

This product is simply amazing. I have a nervous/aggressive Husky/Lab mix who is 4 1/2 years old and weighs 65 pound. He was never able to be around other dogs because when they would get near him my dog would get scared and attack. I used the collar for one day at the dog park and it turned both of our lives around. He now can enjoy being around other dogs at the dog park and at the dog beach. Both the receiver and the remote are water proof so I can even swim in the ocean with him.

Previously I owned a cheap shock collar and I did not get the results that I wanted. There was only one shock setting and it was to intense for my dog which only made him more nervous and scared. This collar has eight levels of stimulation which can be used in two different ways by two different buttons. One button is used to "nick." This is a very quick shock that will get your dogs attention. The second button is "constant." This button will provided stimulation as long as you are holding it down and this is what I use prevent him from getting in fights. I only had to use the constant button on setting 5 three times and my dog learned that it is not ok to attack other dogs. With proper timing it stopped my dogs mind from going into attack mode. Now I finally had a way to stop the aggression and he was able to realize that other dogs were not out to attack him. Since then he is starting to get over his fear and is socializing wonderfully with dogs. I only occasionally have to use the "constant" feature now.

I was hesitant to get this collar because they are considered to be inhumane. Due to the fact that it changed my dogs life and there are eight levels of stimulation I disagree. I wanted to know how intense this was for my dog so I tried it on myself. If you "nick" yourself on level 1 you can barely feel it. This level could be seriously be used on a five pound chiwawa and I think a dog that size would not even react to the stimulation because it is very light. A "nick" on level 8 give you a greater sensation of shock but it does not hurt, it just gets your attention. Now if you use the "constant" feature on level 8 then it is VERY intense and could control any large breed. I use the "nick" and "constant" feature at a level 5 on my dog and like I said before I RARELY use the "constant" feature.

I wanted to write this review to let people know how this product changed my life and my dogs life. I am so glad that he gets the opportunity to socialize with other dogs and just simply be a dog. If used correctly this really is a life changing tool.

Comments about Sport DOG Dog Field Trainer Stubborn:

If it weren't for the collar, I would consider this product near perfect. I use it mainly for obediance training, & bark control on him, while i'm inside & he's outside. Just putting the collar on him made a difference after the first use. He knows what it's for, & I rarely have to use it, now. My dog is a Rottweiler.

Comments about Sport DOG Dog Field Trainer Stubborn:

I have a great dane that had a bad habit of running away. After a few uses of the shock collar he has shown some major improvements in many different areas. He is more obediant. The shock collar is also very humane, it stimulates him only enough to get his attention on level 3, and he is a very large dog. I have also used it on a smaller breed and it worked very well on him.
