Comments about Gap Platform Bed - Walnut:

Bed comes with 1 page of assembly instructions. In Italian.
As others noted, the crossbeams are weak and one broke during installation. Had to go to Home Depo for a replacement. But of course, the crossbeam was not a standard size, so had to replace with a 2x4 and adjust the mounting accordingly. Also, the interlock system required for locks to be sunk deep into the wood. In the case of the headboard, so deep that they crack the veneer on the other side. Side tables attach by two screws. Had to add metal plates for stability.

Oh, and this is not real wood, or quality MDF by any means.

Comments about Gap Platform Bed - Walnut:

First, it was a pleasure buying this bed through Hayneedle (excellent discount,[...]. In fact, after a question I had regarding the dimensions of this bed, the online info was amended to reflect the correct data. Now, six months into owning the bed, I still love walking into my bedroom. It is a beautiful bed. I bought it for the minimalist design, walnut finish and solid wood construction. Also, I prefer slat platform beds (the last bed we had was a platform I built from scratch). The major con here is the cheap slat system. It is foldable metal frame with extremely flexible small 1x2 slats spaced too far apart. Also, whereas the rest of the bed is made in Italy, this sole piece is made in China. I had to reinforce the slats with 1x3's in each gap between slats in order to get a good night's sleep. Cheap fix but for a bed in this price range you expect a lot more. Also, on initial assembly the two foot posts that hold the frame together were missing two critical holes to allow for the steel pins that hold everything together. This was fixed with my drill but again, for the $$, you expect better. Furthermore, I had to add a screw to the floating drawer sidetables so they would be flush with the bed (without it there was an awkward, acute gap).Overall I love the look and finish of this bed and, now fixed, I can sleep on it without sinking to the floor. However, I am appalled by the cheap made-in-china slat system and since its primary purpose should be comfort I can only give 3 stars (5 for design, 4 for frame quality, 1 for slat quality).
