This tumbler is very well designed and really gets results quickly. My wife and I live in Southern California so the temperature stays just right for composting. We took a risk adding coco fiber to the mix and planting it in the ground early (about 1.5-2 weeks) to see if it would keep composting and it did. Not that it would have been much longer for a nice batch to come out. The design is top notch and we've already used the compost tea function. One note however, if you use the compost tea, you may have to add water to dilute some of the larger particles as the flow may otherwise be low. This also gives you a higher yield which the plants LOVE. Only use rain water though; city junk will wilt your plants. The last thing I want to point out is the handle design. Absolutely needed and not seen on most composters. The top slatted (?) handles not only make it easy to turn, but there's no problem when you want to pull the drum off the base. I can't tell you how many times we've used this feature. We could lose the base forever and we'd still be satisfied. Well done Good Ideas.

This is a great idea, attractive, and easy to make compost in. However, they REALLY need to work on the lid. It is very difficult to make it thread properly, requiring both hands and several attempts. Also, it should be noted that this composter must be set up on blocks in order to drain the "tea". And if your mix is wet, "tea" is going to leak out of the drain holes (and possibly onto you) every time you spin it. Therefore, I recommend adding your new compost before you spin, and making sure to leave it with the lid up! Nonetheless, I still like the idea and may add a second one, especially if they improve the lid.

Comments about Good Ideas 52 Gallon Recycled Plastic Compost Tea Tumbler:

I used other composting systems in the past but can't use them in my current townhome environment. The tumbler is large enough to handle the garden waste I have, small enough to fit into the space I am allowed, and attractive enough to meet homeowners association restrictions.

Comments about Good Ideas 52 Gallon Recycled Plastic Compost Tea Tumbler:

I just received mine, no assembly, nice! I filled it two thirds full as recommended, a bit hard to turn but handholds have been provided to get a good grip. Drum got fairly hot on cloudy day, should speed up the process. I like that it's made of recycled plastic and made in the USA. Delivery was very fast, I do not think you can go wrong with this item.

I just got it and loaded it up for the first time, so I can't rate how it makes the compost. But I can rate the service... delivery was within just a few days of being ordered, and it was a snap to set it up... it comes pre-assembled. All I had to do was get it out of the box.

I have been composting for years. This is the easiest for me. Before I had to use a pitch fork to turn my compost pile a couple of time a week. I am 64 years old and it was a work out to say the least. Now, I put my coffee grinds and grass cuttings in and turn the composter once a week. I'm happy with the purchase and would recomend it to anyone who compost.

              Customer Q & A

              4 Questions About This Product
Q: "Is this product made in the USA?"
A: Yes, this product is completely manufactured in Pennsylvania.
              Q: "

Regarding the spigot, as it is low to the ground, how do we get enough pressure to fill a water can?

A: The spigot is low to the ground to allow for enough water pressure to get the compost tea out. Two ways accomplish this is to either a. place the composter up on blocks so that a bucket can be placed underneath the spigot or b. hook up a soaker hose and run it amongst your plants so that they are fed gradually.
Q: "Once the composter is half full, what do we do with the material we want to compost?"
A: Once the composter is between half and ¾ full you will need to stop adding materials so that the batch can process. Two options as to what to do with the accumulating matter while the batch is processing are to a. get a second composter so that you can start another batch while the first is processing or b. start a pile next to your composter or maybe in a trash can until the first batch is done processing.
Q: "Where is this product produced? Is it made in the USA or is it an import?
A: No, this product is completely manufactured in Lake City, Pennsylvania.
