After spending countless hours reviewing dog houses, I've narrowed it down to Boomer & George Log Cabin Dog House vs. Precision Extreme Outdoor Dog House. I went with the B&G house because it is made of wood and because I like the looks of it. The dog house was not purchased for a dog but for a 25 lb. "mini-bulldozer" adult Sulcata tortoise and a 10 lb Red Foot tortoise. If you know anything about Sulcatas, they are curious creatures and are rough riders, rampaging through anything that gets in their way. Suffice to say, the tortoises made themselves at home almost immediately after putting the dog house to use and as rough as they are, the house is sturdy enough, heavy enough and strong enough to keep stationary while providing a sense of security for the tortoises to enjoy. When removing the pieces out of the Hayneedle, Inc. box for the very first time, they feel very flimsy and I initially thought it wouldn't take the abuse of the tortoises. However, after everything is assembled, it is clear that the B&G dog house is quality stuff built to withstand the weather and designed to last. I like how the roof is hinged and can be lifted for easy clean-up and the floor board, comprising of 3 individual pieces, can be removed for cleaning. Assembly shouldn't take more than 20 minutes with manual labor but it took me about 45 minutes because the tortoises wouldn't leave me or the dog house parts alone during the assembly process!

Unfortunately, as stated by prior reviews, this product is constructed of flimsy wood. When assembled, large air gaps show between the walls and the roof, and, to make matters worse, the floorboards have gaps between each and every slat. This won't work for a Massachusetts winter. When I got to the roof, the last piece in the package and for assembly, I noted that the thin piece to which the hinges were attached had a crack from each end which met at about 1/4 of full length. (pictures attached)
On the plus side, Customer Service was terrific; cheerfully and quickly processing my claim. Initially I requested a like-for-like exchange. I later reconsidered and cancelled the exchange as I couldn't expect the flimsy construction and air gaps to change. I went with a different brand which seemed to be better constructed and had an option for an insulation insert which I ordered. The second Customer Service Rep. was as good as the first.

Comments about Boomer & George Log Cabin Dog House:

After hours of homework on line my wife and I felt we found the new home to our new addition to our family. Well on arrival the house looked fine but upon closer inspection we found numerous cracks from inferior craftsmanship, such as over tightened screws that split the frame, wood splitting in multiple areas of the fram and wall. So I call the company and the associate gave all sorts of excuses , instead of trying to resolve or show any sign of rectifying the situation. Eventually she let us return it. The reason I called this deceptive advertiseing is when I saw the video it showed a man in the dog house giving the impression that the home was durable and could handle an animals weight. What I saw was the opposite. Buyer beware.

Comments about Boomer & George Log Cabin Dog House:

Just purchased this dog house for my Yorkie, the walls for the dog house are a bit thin so it doesnt provide enough warmth so my solution was to purchase the insulation kit. Although the walls may be thin I am happy with the fast and say set up, and the raise roof for easy cleaning. I do recomend for small pets.

The dog house arrived in two days (one day before I expected it). We are always apprehensive about assembling anything but this was soooooo easy! We had it put together in a half hour! Its' beautiful and well made. This was the smartest online purchase I have ever made.

Comments about Boomer & George Log Cabin Dog House:

It went together very quickly, but there were a lot of chips along the edges and some places where splinters came up from the edge. Makes me wonder how long it will last. But it was affordable, and the roof is nice and sturdy. Really like being able to open the roof for cleaning (and to discourage the local possums).
