Description

Ideal for kids age six and up, the Hayneedle Deluxe Art Center is the perfect thing to encourage artistic exploration. Featuring solid wood legs and rugged birch plywood surfaces, the tabletop is UV-coated, creating a smooth, non-porous, resilient surface. A paper roll holder accepts rolls up to 18-inches and smartly unrolls right across the table. Also on the table top are storage slots ideal for paints, glitter tubes, glue sticks, and more.
Shelved storage on the other end provides ample storage for everything from cardboard paper to knitting tools. Six canvas bins are included - place three on each of the two shelves for super organized storage. The top shelf features compartmentalized storage for various supplies. There's even a designated spot for markers. Two stools are included so kids can share in the fun. Also included is one 18-inch by 50-foot starter roll of paper.

This table is simply AMAZING!! (And it arrived 2-3 days early, which was an unexpected bonus on our end.)
I bought this table for my son (age 3) so he would have his own table (just his size!) to do his arts and crafts, but we've also discovered that it's the perfect size to put together puzzles, play with play dough, or drive his toy cars around. Even his sisters (ages 9 & 10) are not too big to sit down and color or draw with him.
The stools are also the perfect size - not only can he get up and down without assistance, but they're also comfortable enough that I can sit down beside him when he's playing and not have any trouble getting back up again. (Disclaimer: My knees don't fit under the table, though, unless I stretch out my legs. When I sit down, I usually sit slightly back from the table, or sideways - but it's still comfortable.)
I also love the little "lip" on the back of the stools. I worry less that my son is going to fall backwards (we have hard-surface floors throughout our house, so this is a big concern for me), because the lip keeps him from scooting too far back in his seat and losing his balance. It even makes me feel more secure when I sit down and can feel the lip there.

Overall, I did not think that this table was particularly difficult to assemble. The instructions are very straight-forward and easy to understand - even for me, and I am not any sort of handywoman when it comes to putting furniture together.
However, keep in mind that this table will take a bit of time to assemble. Working slowly, it took us roughly 2 hours to completely put everything together (table AND stools).
It is also MUCH easier to put this thing together with someone else than to do it all by yourself. A single person CAN put it together, but I would suggest tag-teaming it to save yourself some potential frustration.
Two of the pieces to the table we received were mislabeled. I listed this as a con - BUT we were able to spot the mistake immediately (before we even put the wrong piece in the wrong place) thanks to the detailed picture diagrams in the instructions, so it was a quick and easy fix. No stress, no drama.
Overall, I think we'll be getting quite a bit of of mileage out of this table. :)

Just received the table and chairs. Unfortunately, the table was cracked in one corner. I had them send a new one and had to repack the box which is still sitting in my living room. There was also no instruction on how to put the table together. I asked for these as well. I just received the new table top which looks fine, but no instructions. Now I have all these pieces in a corner of my living room waiting to hear back from Hayneedle as they did not have them in emailable form.
Table looks average. Not quality construction whatsoever. I hope that it lasts more than a year.

We had to wait a long time to get this item b/c it was on back order but being patient paid off. Perfect for my kids. Easy assembly. A little pricey, but it was the nicest and efficient one I could find online. I also got it on a good sale so that helped too.

Pros for this table
1) heavy, solid piece of furniture that should last a long time.
2) tasteful, neutral look that fits in great with our decor.
3) big work surface and lots of storage.
Cons
1) be careful when putting together to work on carpeted floor or a towel--easy to nick heavy pieces when assembling.
2) baskets are smaller than letter size paper--which is what we most often use. So to store neatly in provided bins, will have to cut paper smaller.
3) caddy for pens and brushes can't be lifted, so if something falls through the hole, you can't get it out again...like dropping a pick in your guitar, but can't flip it upside-down.

I strongly recommend that you do NOT purcahse this product from Hayneedle. One of the parts had a large splinter of "wood" cracked off it. I called customer service and they said that they can't replace the part! They offered me a 10% discount, which would be great if I liked giving Xmas gifts with scratches and dings. Find your art center somewhere else.
