Not glamorous but just what I'd hoped for. Not too expensive, sturdy (36'' high version), practical shelf height and easy to assemble. They are made of particle board though, and two small pieces of veneer came off when I didnt get two of the screws aligned properly. They came through in a place where the books hide the fault. I've got two more to assemble so I think I know what I'm doing now. All the pieces are well labelled and the pictures of the directions are good. This is just not something I've done before. The bookcase looks like the ones in the public library which is fine for me.

The cases are made of decent wood veneer over MDF, but the stain was sloppily applied in a few areas. Also the hardware was incomplete so I had to buy some here at home. What was really bad though were the RTA cam connectors. They were such inferior metal that when I tightened them, they bend out of shape meaning nothing would tighten. So I had to pay another $12 to go to the local hardware store to buy replacements. I wouldn't buy the shelves again.

Comments about Finley Home Remmington Bookcase - Oak:

I purchased two of the 96" units to make a wall of books in my bedroom hallway.

Packaging: The boxes arrived somewhat beat up with dents and tears in the cardboard, but the bookshelves themselves were well-packaged and therefore undamaged.

Assembly: The assembly instructions were clear, and the parts were packed in such a way that finding the right bolt or screw for each step was very easy. Having assembled furniture in the past, the steps felt very familiar. I have two words of caution regarding the assembly. First, I was overzealous screwing in the cam bolts on the first unit which caused the cams to not engage properly. The problem resolved itself when I loosened the cam bolts slightly. I recommend that you do not screw them in all the way, but stop when there is no further thread showing. Second, the instructions say to stand the unit up after connecting the top and bottom to the sides. This may work for smaller units. However, the 96" unit was too unsteady to stand on its own at this point of assembly. If you choose to stand it up, make sure that you have someone there to steady the unit while you complete the next few steps. What I found easier to do was to install the back of the unit while it is still laying down. This gave it enough rigidity to stand on its own while completing the remaining steps. With these two kinks worked out, it only took about 15-20 minutes to assemble the second unit.

The final product: After having these shelves for about a month, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend them to a friend. They are sturdy and the reinforced shelves do not bow at all, even under the weight of a full shelf of large books. I also like the look of the units. The only potential cons I can find are that the assembled 96" units are very heavy. I would not recommend trying to move them by yourself. Second, the reinforcing rod does come about 1/8" down from the profile of each shelf, so some larger books won't necessarily fit (a complaint that I've read in a few other reviews). Your options, then, are to either store your larger books on the top shelf (since the top of the unit does not have a reinforcing rod) or to move one of the adjustable shelves to accommodate larger books.

Comments about Finley Home Remmington Bookcase - Oak:

When assembly is complete, shelves are very nice. However, assembly is quite difficult. It would be simple if quality hardware were included. Cam's and screws are cheap and non-standard so obtaining flush, rigid assembly is very difficult.
