This is my first tiffany lamp and I was surprised to find the lamp shade with an oily residue on it. I used paper towels to clean it leaving a light coating on the shade. After plugging it in and leaving it on for a couple of hours the oily residue was evaporated from the heat of the bulbs. I assume this oily coating is to protect the finish of the glass. It's dry as a bone now :)
