As an owner of several telescopes I can honestly say this is my most enjoyable purchase so far.
I have to say it is better than the Meade ETX series (I have an ETX-125) and this little telescope get used the most by me. Mood shots with a Neximage CCD camera are highly detailed and spectacular, Saturn's rings clearly visible, I have observed many nebulae and star clusters due to it's wide field view and nice focal ration. The hand controller is also better than Meade Autostar, more lines of test and easier to read for me. I love this scope and I give it a solid 5 stars with no reservation.

If you are looking for a gift for the first time stargazer, or just a light fun scope for yourself- I highly recommend this.

The weight of this mount is light, so movement to an observation place is very easy. The goto precision is very good. The GPS is also very fast and correct. Therefore a setup ends in 2-3 minutes.

It's a little noisy, but It is not awful.
If the goto speed can be done late, it would be perfect and be a quiet mount. I want ioptron to improve this point. The firmware updater is hoped for.

Comments about iOptron SmartStar G R80 GoTo GPS Refractor Telescope:

This is a nice scope, but realize most of what you spend is for the goto cube mount. the goto mount is Great though a bit complicated for the begineer to learn to use. As for the telescope itself, it shows a chrystal clear but SMALLER view of the moon (even with a 3X lens add-on) and planets just show as shiny dots. it did not take me long to realize I should have spent the extra money for a celestron 6 or 8 system. sure, the celestron 8 costs a little over a grand, but the pictures and views are really more than worth it. This is a good kids learning scope so don't be disappointed if you don't spend the extra money for a better system.

RECEIVED BEFORE LISTED DELIVERY DATE: GOOD

    PACKAGE: GOOD

    CONTENTS: EVERYTHING STATED

    ASSEMBLY: EASY

NOT EASY TO SET UP. AC ADAPTER FAULTY {DID NOT WORK}. VERY DIFFICULT TO LEVEL AND FOCUS. FOR A BEGINER LIKE ME, DO NOT UNDERSTAND HAND CONTROLER, NEED INSTRUCTIONS ON THE STAR NUMBERING SYSTEM, LIKE A PRINTED LIST FOR WHAT NUMBER GETS WHAT STAR. INSTRUCTIONS ON SETUP WERE GOOD. ONLY FOUND ONE PLANET JUPITER, NEEDS A LONGER VIEWING LENS IF LOOKING UP HAVE TO KNEEL OR SET ON GROUND BECAUSE THE EYEPIECE INPOINTER THE GROUND.

Comments about iOptron SmartStar G R80 GoTo GPS Refractor Telescope:

Although this scope is 2 years old(wish I had known that), I believe it will help me begin to look at the planets. Unfortunately the doumentation that came with the equipment was quite sketchy and the iOptron website and their support staff poor for clear and complete documentation. No one as of yet has returned support calls - just emails so far.
But as a beginner, I need a lot more than email support. I have a lot of questions but am plodding thru things on my own.

Instead of receiving a new telescope I received a used and broken scope. I would not recommend using Teiescope.com or doing bussnise with Hayneedle.

      Customer Q & A

      4 Questions About This Product
Q: "Would this unit require a moon filter for brightness washout? And if so what would be compatible? Thanks for your help?"
A: A Moon Filter would be highly recommended if you are observing the Moon. Here is a Moon Filter that would work with the iOptron, Celestron Telescope Moon Filter 1 1/4 Inch (CELE133).
Q: "Does this telescope require batteries, if so what size?"
A: The is telescope requires 8x AA batteries to operate if you are not using an A/C adapter.
Q: "Does this telescope display erect images?"
A: This telescope does come with a 45 degree erecting diagonal.
Q: "How travel friendly is this? What kind of space is need for storage?"
A: It's fairly easy to break down and either place in the trunk of your vehicle or on the back seat.
