My little mini mincer finally died after many years of service and I decided I'd replace it with a small food processor that I could store in my TINY kitchen and that I could also make pie dough and hopefully pasta dough with. Well, there ARE no small food processors so I ended up looking at choppers and settled on this one partly because of the KA name but also because I think somewhere I saw a mention of making dough in it. Anyway, I bought it sometime this year and have used it for various chopping jobs and been VERY happy with it - so much more consistent as far as size than a blender or my little mini mincer. But I never had worked up the ambition to try pie crust. And now, of all times I chose Thanksgiving day to try it. Thank heavens, it worked and worked beautifully. I only made one crust at a time since that's a cup of flour and 1/3c. shortening. And about 10 quick pulses and it was pretty much perfect. I DID dump it into a bowl and do the 2-knives method for a minute or so just cause I couldn't quite believe it was done. But it was and I'm a happy camper. I think this will inspire me to try a small batch of pasta dough.

P.S. - I've noticed a couple of negative comments about taking the lid off and taking the bowl off the base and I, too, thought there was something wrong with mine when I tried, following the instructions, to dismantle it the first time. But since then, either because of experience or use, it has become very easy to do, so if you have trouble stick with it. The end result (a great little chopper) is worth it.

My old chopper (3cup) broke and I was so sorry to learn that you did not make it any longer - I contacted customer service and they were very nice and tried to help in every way - We were able to work something out and I was sent the new model at a discounted price - I wish I had not ordered as it is no where near as good as the old one - At my age at times it is difficult to turn things and I found this one hard to turn and not easy to handle as it has no HANDLE - You had a great product and you need to go back to it - Sorry Kitchen Aid - Hope my counter top mixer does not go bad as I would not want to replace it -

Trouble with blade

By doug the farmer

Comments about KitchenAid KFC3511 3.5-Cup Food Chopper - Onyx Black:

Thought I got a good chopper, as wife has some other good Kitchen Aid products. She loves to cook and teaches our 2 adopted granddaughters to cook "from scratch" so she needs a good chopper. Any way this unit is 6 months old and blade won't stay on shaft, when it works it chops great, but can't keep it chopping.

Looks very pretty but is very decieving

By STEVEONY

Comments about KitchenAid KFC3511 3.5-Cup Food Chopper - Onyx Black:

I Ordered this chopper a week ago and was very excited about getting it as it is my first food processor. I chose this small 3.5 cup as I live alone and only cook for 1 or 2 and the many color options. Looks very nice and is name brand but it doesnt seem like much real world testing went into this product. Only pro so far is appearance. First thing I noticed is that the decieving "additive" port is just a tiny hole for adding liquid that you pour on the outside of the lid and drizzles to the inside dust and all. Second thing I found that is the cord length is barely 23 inches long, try moving that around a counter top. There is a cord keeper on the bottom but not enough room for the entire cord because the first 7 inches still hangs out. Next I realized the lid, base, and blade are very difficult to detach. The 2 speed push buttons are part of the cover that flow through the chopping bowl and activate the motor as a safety feature. The lid has a funky ramping action that doesnt really help anything as you can lock and remove the lid before it even comes to this ramping deal. I played around with the lid a bit and if it isnt on all the way the chop button can still activate the puree mode switch(I scratched my head on that one) Up next the blade is difficult to remove when the bowl is still installed wich I get but they extended it to hit the inside of the cover to restrict up and down movement so it wont disengage the motor shaft. Now after the external review we get to throw some ingredients in....HUGE dissapointment! First few pulses everything is slung and stuck to the wall of the bowl...now what? Get out the spatula and scrape it off right? The blade doesnt move because its attached to the motor so scrape around it. Pulse scrape pulse scrape pulse scrape...liquid additive is sitting in the bottom not blending with the solids...pulse scrape pulse scrape ok now we are just playing the game take the lid off every time. By now the lid is broken in enough to twist open on its own from vibration and bouncing up and down on the counter tetherd to the wall by its short cord..fun game. Now we shall attempt to take apart and wash the dirty parts. Great there are 4 springs, a screw and internal moving parts on the bowl and lid not to mention the blade could slice open a wet hand in the blink of an eye. Good luck rinsing out all that soapy water, and forget about hand drying all that water you can still see inside there #1yearwarrany...just my 2 cents. Guess you get what you pay for no matter the brand

I like it at first but then...

Comments about KitchenAid KFC3511 3.5-Cup Food Chopper - Onyx Black:

When I bought it it worked pretty well, I was very happy, chopped and purée everything without any problem, but now, it's been 6 months since I first used it and started having problems, mostly the blades gets stuck when trying to chop ( I even tried with 3 or 4 spinach leaves and it still does it) tried to contact customer service several times but without any response, I don't know what to do with it, very disappointed.
