This is the first grinder that I've purchased and I spent way too much time shopping for one before I stumbled across the KitchenAid. All the reviews for different grinders seemed to say that any grinder that didn't operate with "conical burrs" wouldn't do the job. Non-conical burr grinders tend to heat up and scorch the grinds and take away from the taste. The KitchenAid manages to get around that because of the way it is designed. The cutting burrs operate at a very low speed which eliminates the heat and prevents any scorching. The burrs create a very consistent grind and it is very easy to adjust the coarseness. I use a Keurig to brew my coffee and I find that setting the dial to 4.5 is just right. The only thing that I'm disappointed about is the collection bowl. It is made of VERY thin glass and I can understand why so many reviewers complained about how easily it is broken. I don't understand why KitchenAid made a solid and well built appliance and then equipped it with an extremely fragile collection bowl. This isn't the least expensive grinder on the market but I have no problem spending the money on a well built machine that I use each and every day. My wife wasn't real pleased about how much I'd spent but I reminded her that I had spent a lot more on her KitchenAid mixer and it doesn't get used nearly as much as the grinder.

What a nice grinder. Works great and does the job without too much of a mess. Quiet too. Just the kind of product you would expect from Kitchenaid. But mine is broken now and out of warranty. The "internal wings" on the adjustment knob broke and now the knob doesn't stop on 1 or 8. It just keeps turning. No big deal until you try and buy a replacement. "NOT AVAILABLE" anywhere. This unit was new last year and they don't support it with spare parts? I can't recommend anything that the company doesn't support so fast after product introduction. So if you want to look at it and never expect it to break or if you are willing to spend $200 for a new unit just to get the knob it is a good deal. But I think it would be better for kitchenaid to stock a few replacement knobs that could be bought for ten bucks or so.

We grew tired of grinding by hand and wanted a quality yet affordable grinder.. the kitchenaid fits the bill ! we mostly use ours for a coarse grind for our French press... very even grind and no more sludge in the bottom of our cups!

Comments about KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Coffee Mill:

Mine is at least 5 years old and I love it. I was worried that I might someday break the bottom bowl, but so far it has not happened. I even use it to mill grain for making bread. Not hard to clean. Only took it apart one time when I tried a grain that was too oily and it was very easy to put back together. I just wish they had a way to store the cord because I don't leave mine out all the time, because I have such a small kitchen. If there was a way to make the foot-print smaller I would give it 5 stars for design. It would of been out of my price range, but I bought a refurbished one at the factory store for a fraction of the price, but now that I have owned it for so many years, it would of been worth the price at full cost.

Comments about KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Coffee Mill:

This grinder can grind a lot of coffee in just a few short minutes. It's not as messy as other home grinders I've had or used but still gets coffee grounds in places around my kitchen that surprise me. This is a fairly large machine and is hard to move. I have to leave it on my counter, where it takes up a lot of room and is still hard to move from where it lives to where I need it to grind coffee. That said, it does what it's supposed to do -- grinds coffee from espresso to french press quickly and easily.

We have always ground our own beans with many different coffee grinders over the years and this is by far and away the best design, appears to be well mad with nice ease of cleaning and an excellent instruction book.

After trying a half-dozen grinders over the years, I feel like I've found exactly what I need. This machine has the sturdy, all-metal construction of a KitchenAid mixer, with glass components that prevent static build-up. It's easy to keep clean, easy to disassemble and adjust if needed, quieter than most other grinders, and does an excellent job. The industrial design looks great in a modern kitchen. I couldn't be happier.

This is a good coffee grinder, pricey but good. I do wish the glass receptacle was as heavy built as the grinder. A heavier Pyrex-like glass similar to measuring cups would be nice.
