At 41" it's the widest cedar chest you'd want for a California King, without crashing into a corner in the middle of the night. Takes an hour to assemble. The "cam locks" are pot-metal and won't grab the neck of the locking posts so well, so don't force them or the finger will snap-off. Get them to grab-hold even just partially is OK. If your feel the cam finger bending, stop. They carry free repair parts. Call Hayneedle.
Try and install the locking post at 90-degrees to the surface - and trim the raised laminate at the post base after you turn them in. Make the pieces fit flush. Single screwdriver assembly, but I needed to glue and clamp the bottom-back flooring edge that was sagging from non-support, then drill a 3/32nd pilot hole dead-center under the back panel and turn-in a 1", #8 wood screw. Solid-bottom going now.
They'll always be an 1/8" gap under the perimeter of the lid, because they installed round felt pads on the top edge. Remove the 1/2" pads and re-stain the bare dots, and the lid will sit flush, but you'll hear it.
Note: At least two of the lid hinge screw-holes will be off-target. Not to worry. Use a power drill w/Phillips head to start new holes, using the hinge bracket as a drill-template. Don't force the hinge arm to reach the factory holes, if they don't match up, or the hinge will squeak loudly when closing.

Beautiful chest, but after about 14 times of opening and closing the lid the lid broke at the hinges and broke completely out wood and all from the back panel. I can return the chest & get a refund, but first I have to take the chest apart and box it up (after I find a box) and send it back. Hayneedle will email a Fed Ex label. This is not a solid hardwood product, don't be fooled.

The exterior and interior finishes are thin veneers. The assembly was OK but the connections were die cast and easily broken.

Comments about Laurel Cedar Hope Chest - Oak Finish:

The chest looks good, and it works great for what I'm using it for. I have board games & extra throw blankets stored. My husband assembled it, said it wasn't made as well as he'd like, but agreed that it was a good value for the money. The other comparable chests I looked at were almost twice as much.

Chest is beautiful once assembled-- Although several holes did not line up that was fairly easily rectified-
I was able to assemble without a drill & alone except for the lid which tells you that you need assistance-- Very straight forward instructions--
    LOVELY WHEN ASSEMBLED !!

The chest arrived fast but two of the corners are damaged, assuming it happened in shipping. The holes didn't line up so my husband had to fix that, thankful he is a handy man. The chest looks nice once it finally was put together minus the two banged up corners.

We bought this for our daughter & son-in-law, to keep all their Wedding Memories inside, Her Dress, Shoes, Wedding Albums/Pictures, etc., the top had two spots on it where the wood was gouged & raised & rough and was slightly damaged, I had to gently sand the spot and use Old English filler polish on it, but the spot isn't as shiny as the rest of the top now. :( Other than this, we were happy with the product itself & the design is Beautiful!, Very Sturdy TOO! ;)
