Yes, I read some reveiws where the chest was made of particle board and it didn't hold up with opening and closing of the lid, but I ordered it anyway. Having worked years with wood products I had a hunch what the problem may be. The hinges where tight, but with a few drops of lithium grease and working the hinges back and forth before installing them, they where able to open and close like a spring loaded door on the back porch. I feel the manufacture should advise you that the hinges are tight and supply you with instructions and a few drops of grease to help loosen the hinges. This a realy nice chest if put together right.

Beautiful chest, but after about 14 times of opening and closing the lid the lid broke at the hinges and broke completely out wood and all from the back panel. I can return the chest & get a refund, but first I have to take the chest apart and box it up (after I find a box) and send it back. Hayneedle will email a Fed Ex label. This is not a solid hardwood product, don't be fooled.

Beautiful but after opening and closing a handful of times the hinge came off the back, wood and all. I am pretty upset because I loved using this in my daughter's room.

The cedar chest we ordered was for our granddaughter's graduation gift. It arrived on the day we were told it would, and it is beautiful. Was easy for our son-in-law to put together too. Has a beautiful finish, and Kayla loved it.
