Comments about Learning Resources Jumbo Insects:

I received these toys for my son Davey, for a review on my blog. With Davey's autism it is hard to find good educational toys that he can understand. Most educational toys that are at his age level are a little too complex for him, so I tend to get educational toys from a lower age level, or things that have very simple concepts to them. When Learning Resources asked me what I would like to review for our Blogiversary, I chose the Jumbo Insects set. They have several Jumbo animal sets, but Davey does not know very much about insects so I thought this would be a great teaching tool for him!

Davey has had a lot of fun playing with these Jumbo Insects. They are a great size for little kids -- made big enough to see the detail of the insect, and not so small that they would be a choking hazard or anything. They fit right in Davey's little hands just fine. He actually already knew what the butterfly, ladybug, ant, and bee were, but I had to teach him about dragonflies, grasshoppers, and flies. The toys come with a guidebook for how to use them in educational play. Mostly right now Davey just plays with them as toys, but I was glad I was able to teach him what the different bugs he didn't know were. He loves trying to make the butterfly and other flying insects fly above his head (and even throws them up in the air and says they are flying!). He sees ants a lot on one of his favorite TV shows so he play acts from that show with the ant.

These are a great toy for your child to learn about different insects. Be sure to check out their other Jumbo animal sets as well! They are rated age 3-5, and have been perfect for Davey at almost 4 years old, even with his autism.

Comments about Learning Resources Jumbo Insects:

I purchased this set for my son, and he loved them. They are great. The only one that was not so great of quality was the butterfly, that is more easily broken. The rest are great, I really wished they would have added a catepillar in the set. This set is meant for a little older children, some parts of the bugs legs are a little pointy and sharp. But I would definately recommend this to any other parents!
