When I saw how small the box was, I thought this must be a flimsy product- Nope. Just engineered and packed well. It took most of the day to assemble, but I give the instructions a 9.5 out of 10. They are basically Army proof steps, but I still put one hinge on upside down. 3-D type drawings can go either way sometimes. No missing hardware, thanks to the skin pack design of the nuts and bolts package. Ended up practically bullet proof when I was done, and I've started to fill one container. Plenty of room to cycle two batches of compost, and is very easy to rotate and lock into place. Trim pieces cover all screw heads, very clean look. I'm very critical of products, and really tried to find something I didn't like about this composter. Still looking, but I'm going to have to give this two thumbs way up for now. We will see if we have good compost in a few months, but I fully expect to see good stuff this Spring!

I really LOVED this composter...UNTIL the hinge mechanism holding the lid on to one of the containers rusted through and the lid fell off. Without a lid, the Dual Compost Tumbler does not tumble! We purchased the composter during the summer of 2013, so it was only two years old. The hinge mechanism appears to have rusted through. The composter was not exposed to water often, as Texas is drought-stricken. Nor was the lid stressed excessively, as it rested on a fence when it was opened. Now, the lid on the remaining container is almost impossible to open, I'm guessing due to rust. This is a product that has great features and that should be getting uniform five star reviews, but I cannot give it anything but a one-star because cheap parts were used in the most critical places.

Piece of junk

Comments about Lifetime Dual 50 Gallon Composter:

It took a full day to assemble, and then started rusting the moment I started loading compost materials into it. First both metal lid opening assemblies became very stiff and hard to operate, then the metal hinges on one lid started rusting away, and then broke so that the lid fell off, rendering that bin unusable. The hinges on the second lid are heading the same way. The dual-bin tumbler is a cool concept. Execution, not so much.

nightmare to put together

Comments about Lifetime Dual 50 Gallon Composter:

you need to partially or completely put this item together before selling it or include a specific installation video. it's a nightmare. we are ready to return it to costco. if you value your time this is not worth what you think you're saving buying it at costco. I'm sure if we ever get it together we will love the product but I would not recommend it to my friends, due to the time spent putting it together.

Seems good but I have lots of parts left over

I'm just inside trying to figure out why I have so many parts left over. I think my instructions are missing some pages as the pdf instructions on the website have directions that I don't have in my package.

Pretty Good product.

By dave57

Comments about Lifetime Dual 50 Gallon Composter:

Overall, this is a good product, but it does have a couple of flaws. The basic design and construction is very good. The unit is sturdy and stable, and the bins rotate freely. I have had mine over a year now, and I agree, the catch mechanism does tend to rust and jam, and definitely should have been made rust proof. By definition, the environment for the catch is going to be damp and corrosive. I fixed (sort of) the issue by spraying the mechanism with WD40 when needed. So far that has kept the catches operating. The other issue is the locking pin. The one on the right just snapped!. This is the bin I use for kitchen scraps, so it got much more use than the other one. In the kitchen I collect organic waste such as peels and cores in a counter top container. When it fills, I empty it into the compost bin, and rotate the bin a few time to mix. I usually stop the bin by letting the locking pin re-engage as the drum rotates. Apparently this is too much for the pin to withstand.

Was very worried about ordering from Hayneedle because of all the bad reviews, but was rather surprised when our package came a few days early. Glad I was able to save so much money. Will be ordering from them again in future.

Bought in February, no problems as of now. Produces good compost in 1-2 months. Once assembled (a pain) it is very easy to use. - One minor problem, a lot of water seems to get in after rains.

Comments about Lifetime Dual 50 Gallon Composter:

I really like how sturdy the composter is. It was a pain to put the bins together however. I would definetley recommend using the non stick spray AND the rubber mallet the instructions suggest. Not a bad idea to have a helper as well. I had issues trying to put the last side on the bins and getting them lined up with the last strip. And being molded plastic it took the rubber mallet to help get the strip on the last side. The frame is very sturdy. I am very happy with the product now that it is put together!

Easy to assemble and waiting for my first batch!

Comments about Lifetime Dual 50 Gallon Composter:

This took me 3-4 hours to put together - I was at a slow pace on a hot summer day.  The instructions were easy to follow.  Per other reviews, I did assemble the base on site of its final home.  I can see how moving it would be difficult.  I have noticed some rust appearing on one end at the aeration bar so will need to contact Customer Service.  I'm a SWF who enjoys small scale gardening and do-it yourself project.  I thoroughly enjoyed assembling this product and recommend it!
