The Kettle Moraine Hardwoods Morton Rustic Fireplace Mantel Shelf has a natural butternut front with a straight top and sides. Its hearty 6-foot construction makes it the perfect place to mount heavy or light memorabilia. Butternut wood is closely related to American Black Walnut but with a coarser grain and lighter, more golden color. The accent of the natural bark and the veins and swirls of the butternut wood will add beauty to your hearth.

Nice thick heavy mantle shelf. Fairly consistent witdth. Shows the grain and defects in the wood in a beautiful way. Takes stain nicely. Great for a rustic look or a nice twist on modern.

We bought this mantel for our living room and absolutely love it. It came unfinished so we ended up putting a couple coats of stain on it and it took the color very well. It can be a little tricky to install but with a laser level we didn't have any problems. I would definitely recommend this to others looking for a "contemporary rustic" mantel :-)
