I have had my compost maker for three weeks, and I love it. I have emptied it once and it was wonderful. Could not be happier. There was some odor until I realized I needed to empty tray, after that it was OK. The noise is very low, I have it in my laundry room and have no problems with it. I like it so much that I will be buying two more for Christmas gifts, one for my daughter and the other for my granddaughter. The Service and Delivery could not have been better, wonderful service!

I recently bought the product and still tinkering with it. I have yet to produce perfect compost with it but my main complaint is the customer service. At the price I paid I would expect someone to pick up the phone and answer my few simple questions. I do not even get help in form of emails in timely fashion. I hate to return the product but it might have to go just because of lack of help.

Comments about NatureMill Metro Compost Bin:

I bought this product and after 3 months the metal exterior falls off and cannot be glued back on. There is a warranty however the customer must pay to ship this back to the company and what will this cost 50 bucks or so. The customer service is just poor, they will send you form email and then just ignore the situation altogether. The machine broke down entirely after 13 months. 1 month after the warranty expiration. The concept of an electronic composter is excellent, however NatureMill cannot offer a high quality product.

Very Good But too Small for Yard Leaves.

Comments about NatureMill Metro Compost Bin:

This is a very good machine for food scraps from the kitchen but it is way to small for yard leaves. You still need a pile in the yard for leaves, branches, grass clippings, etc. So with this machine, now you have two composting operations to manage instead of just one. For me that doesn't make much sense. For someone without a yard (or a gardener who takes away the leaves) that might work. I do indeed like the convenience factor where you don't have to trudge outside to empty the compost pail but you can do that indoors and even right in the kitchen. So it saves a trip. When it is dark and raining outside that is a nice perk.

Comments about NatureMill Metro Compost Bin:

We have a very short growing season so regular composting just does not work. Forget about worms because they reproduce too slowly to eat an entire compost pile and the ground freezes them out most of the year. Also the altitude must have something to do with it because even on a hot august day af the end of the summer there never seems to be much life in my compost pile (I still have an outdoor pile for the leaves in our yard). The automatic composter is definitely the way to go. It works all year round. There are no worms or other critters to worry about. It is as reliable as a dish washer and much cheaper. Get one and you will love it, especially if you have a short growing season.

I can't believe how easy it is. Once the cultures are fired up (that takes about a week) then the process becomes very hot and things happen quickly. If you put an entire fish skeleton in after dinner (yes I've done this and it's ok) then by morning it is all broken apart and by the following dinner time it basically is dirt. It's that fast! As I said, the first week is kind of slow and you can't rush that. It takes time for the natural organisms to become established inside which is how the decomposition occurs naturally.

I used one of these continually for 3 years, and recently had to replace it. Making my own compost, I had my best vegetable garden yields, and the rose bushes doubled in size and bloom. The newer model has better functional design features than the original.
