The Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock is now available in a rope that can offer the soft feel of cotton while maintaining superior outdoor durability and solution-dyed color-fastness. DuraCord is the answer to long outdoor life with the comfort of cotton. DuraCord is a synthetic fiber woven into a color fast solution dyed yarn. It has the softness of cotton, but will outlast polyester.

DuraCord Hammocks - What are the benefits?
DuraCord has the soft feel of cotton, and the durability like nothing before it. It is colorfast and fade resistant. The color will remain unchanged outdoors. UV stabilization of DuraCord exceeds industry standards for outdoor products. It is stain resistant. It will not rot, mold, or support mildew growth. DuraCord is durable and abrasion resistant. It is quick drying and will not absorb water. This product transports moisture away from the body for a "cooling" effect. Insects and rodents are not attracted to DuraCord.
About Pawleys Island
In 1889, the Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock© was created at Pawleys Island, one of the oldest summer resorts on the South Carolina coast. When river boat pilot Captain Joshua John Ward found the grass-filled mattresses on his boat too hot in the summer, he decided to make a cool and comfortable cotton rope hammock to use on his boat. After several uncomfortable designs, Cap'n Josh made a hammock using wooden spreaders without knots. This original design has proven to be so comfortable, that it's still used in Pawleys Island's popular hammocks, over a century later.
Pawleys Island continues to use the highest quality materials when making their traditional all-cotton rope, spun polyester rope, and DuraCord® hammocks. Their custom-designed stretcher bars are cut from seasoned Carolina red oak, then steamed, bent, drilled, sanded, and varnished to impart a comfortable sway to the hammock and to spread the rope evenly for optimum stability.

My wife and daughters love the hammock. They use it for reading and relaxing. It's comfortable and very stable in the stand. My 7 and 9-year-old daughters have an easy time getting in and out. I also like that the stand assembles and disassembles quickly and easily so that I can get it out of the way when I'm mowing.
My only issue with the product is that the stand began rusting around the valco clips almost immediately. I'll just have to clean it up in a year or so and do a more thorough job painting it than they did at the factory.
Still, a great product - particularly the hammock itself.

All of the good reviews here seem to be of those who just got the hammock or had it a short while. My first impression of the full product was also good. The hammock material seems durable and after 1 season's use seems like it will last. The hammock was stored for the winter this first year. The stand however is a different story. It seems rugged out of the box but time will tell you different. You get 1 yr warranty but for me, after 13 months, one stand pipe end rusted, then split, sending the pole to the ground while someone was on it. (Average weight person less than 200lb, well under the 450lb limit). We began to see rust after only several months of the summer. The other end is probably not far behind. The weld seam is along the length on the same side as the hole which connects it to the base. IMO the hole should have been punched on the opposite of the seam. It split right along the rusted seam up to the hole. Poor design. The poles are painted and paint peels after a time and after going through 13 months outside, the weather got to it. I guess you have to store the base out of weather too to get any life out of it. [...]
