I dig this dog house. So does my dog Mr. Beef. Here is a picture of the handsome devil, with the dog house sort of out of focus behind him. This house has kept my dear hound dry in many-a-shower, and well shaded from some brutal summer heat. It does leave something to be desired in the warmth category in winter months, but it keeps out the wind. It has served the Beef and me well for nearly 3 years.

This dog house has a classic design that looks picturesque in the backyard. In fact, I bought the dog house before I bought the dog. I thought my backyard needed some sprucing up, and I was considering getting a dog at the time, so what the heck? The price was right. And once I saw the fetching sight of this dog house from my kitchen window, I knew it was only matter of time before I found the dog to inhabit it.

Mr. Beef moved in a few weeks later and stole the show. Just look at the way he jumped in front of the camera and obscured what otherwise would have been a fine picture of the Precision Outback Country Lodge Dog House. But who am I to question my hound's vanity? He's handsome and he knows it.

So, to make up for the dog's camera-hogging, I shall attempt to pay tribute to this fine dog house with the written word.

I give you what is perhaps the world's first Shakespearean sonnet about a dog house. Really, it's written in iambic pentameter, follows the set rhyme scheme, and ends with the signature rhyming couplet. I will be the first to admit that this places me squarely on the nerd side of the fence:

A roof over hound's head shelters from rain
And casts cooling shade in summer's thick heat.
Walls of solid fir block cold wind's disdain
For my dogs' comfort in the winter bleak

Assembly so easy a child of six
Might manage to build in half hour or two
A handsome structure, I tell you, no tricks.
Grown as you are, in half time you'll be through.

Raised is the floor, above hard ground it stands
Keeping moisture at bay and heat beyond.
Walnut stained wood, nature's beauty at hand.
Adjusting feet level like magic wand.

Why the doghouse, you ask, out of focus?
Mister Beef, of course, this photo's opus.

Hard floor, I need to get a out door dog bed to make it comfy for my dog. This is my boxers first dog house. She's a little scared of it. We are working on training her to get used to it. When it rains she still hides in a bush rather than using the dog house.

Comments about Precision Outback Country Lodge Dog House:

I purchased the medium size for cats that hang around my house. I'm a sucker for strays, and when they show up I start feeding them. You know what happens then... Anyway, I wanted something sturdy and not too expensive to provide shelter for them during the cold winter months. The house arrived in a timely fashion and was packed nicely with not too much of that blasted styrofoam junk, but there were a few pieces that were inserted for cushioning. Just have you vacuum handy to pick up stray pieces of packing material. Assembly was pretty simple and didn't take too long. I took my time though to make sure I didn't mess up. The only thing that was a little confusing was attaching the roof. I used my God given common sense and finally figured it out. I plan to do some modifications to make the structure a little more weather tolerant. I'm going to add shingles to the roof, insulation to the inside and am going to apply a waterproof sealant to the wood so the rain will not permeate the wood. So far I am relatively pleased with the basic structure. Oh, when I ordered my house it stated that a free door would be included; however, the door was not included in the box with the house. I had to call Hayneedle to inform them that I did not receive it, and the agent was very nice about it and promised to send one out to me the next day. Great customer service!

There were a few pieces that were not cut true or the wood had splintered in spots, mainly on the roof. An extra piece of bracing was included, I guess if one were to be too messed up to use. I really appreciated how the screws and holes lined up perfectly. I did not have to jimmy-rig anything to make it fit. The only thing that gave me pause was the roof, but like I said, I finally figured it out. Just make sure the two long braces near the top on the inside of the roof panels fit into the grooves on the sides of the front and back panels. That will ensure the roof sits square and true. Happy assembly!

I plan to line the floor underside with some insulation and then add hay so the strays will have some soft cushioning and warmth. So for all intents and purposes, I'm pretty pleased with myself! I'm an old broad now, and physically I'm slowing down, but thank God I still have most of my mental faculties, albeit a little forgetful at times, but hay, I made it this far!

Comments about Precision Outback Country Lodge Dog House:

We keep our 16 lb puggle in a large pen in our basement during the day while we're gone. Although the basement is finished, it still gets chilly and there is no overhead enclosure. I wanted a simple, small dog house to set inside the pen so she could "den" and have somewhere warm to curl up in. This house in the small size was the perfect solution. It looks nice enough to have indoors and not look out of place with rest of decor and it was easy to put together. We used a small drill and phillips head bit. Although the quality is good, I don't think it's built for outdoor use - the roof would need to be lined and it would probably need to be weighted down. But for our purpose it's great. Some reviews stated that they received damaged pieces - I figured this might have more to do with the delivery method than the product itself so I paid the extra $5 for Fed Ex shipping and it arrived super fast with no damage at all. I looked around quite a bit for a small A-frame style, wooden house like this and this was by far the best price I could find.

This dog house looks nice but the wood is thin and flimsy. A piece of it broke off during shipping. I would've sent it back if it wasn't for the hassle of repacking and shipping. I'll just make it work.

I am very disappointed with my purchase. Wood are cheap quality and one of the pieces came broken :/ it looks better in the picture than in person. I don't recommend to buy this.
