I received this microwave as a gift two years ago. I had to make some adjustments on the cooking time as most recipies are for 700-900W units. Other than that, it has served me well until yesterday when I was heating a cup of water for tea and spaks flew out the back of it. Today, it is recycled material but after reading reviews on most other brands, I will replace it with the same make/model.

We purchased this microwave oven because a microwave we have had for eleven years died. It was another brand and we could not purchase another like unit because that model is no longer available. So we started searching for a similar size, our counter is small between the fridge and a cupboard. We wanted a similar wattage and made the rounds of the stores in the third largest city in the state of Illinois. We thought after all of that effort we had found a good replacement. We are disappointed. It met the size and wattage requirement and had a 'new' Inverter technology which we were told would be great for us. It doesn't even pop popcorn worth a darn. With our old unit we hit "Popcorn' and chose 'Regular' or 'Snack' size and it did a beautiful job. We understood that it used "Sensor" technology. This Panasonic has three different ounce sizes to choose from, none of which exactly fit "Orville's snack size, and I can't get a descent popped bag. I've tried modifing the time using the plus and minus capability but to no good results. My wife is very unhappy that it is hard to see what is going on in the oven while heating something because the light in the oven is on the side near the front and would be much better placed near the rear so it would light what is rotating on the table and not glare in your eyes. She is really unhappy that when you open the door to check on something being heated the light does not stay on and you are not able to see to stir your soup or if it is boiling over. And if it has, you can't see very well to clean up the mess. We sure miss our old microwave!

Counter-top unit with big box features

By Mac

from New Jersey

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Inexpensive

Cons

    Best Uses

This is my second one of these. Exact same model. After 5 or 6 years the old one quit. For the price I easily got my money's worth. The one main irritation with the old unit - a door latch with too much latching effort - was corrected. Like butter now. The inverter technology and button selection features allow the family to cook just about anything with ease. There is a lot of microwave power and we regularly use the power reduction button to slow down the cooking on some things or use the food selection options. I've always had great experience with Panasonic products. Hopefully the life of this unit will meet or exceed the last one.

Gets the job done, just not very exciting

      Cons

      • can't utilize the timer while cooking
      • no interior light

      Best Uses

I purchased this microwave online and wish I had seen it in person first. The overall look is rather dated and I really miss having an interior light, which my old microwave had. I also wish that the timer could be utilized independently, even while you are cooking something else. It's one or the other. I think this unit would be fine for an office kitchen, but for home use, it's pretty bare bones.

We purchased this microwave in April 2015. This week, February 2016, it just stopped working. First off, all this time we have found it to be too strong, and we are frequently turning the Power to 8, so things don't burn up. Also, the buttons are not very user friendly, like our previous microwaves have been. For example, if you want to cook 1 potatoes or 4 potatoes, there is only 1 button for Potatoes--which is way too long for only 1! The "Sensor cooking" doesn't seem to work correctly. We having been just modifying how we microwave, and then this week it just stops; like the power cut out inside. It is under warranty, so they will repair it free, which is great, but the closest Panasonic repair place is 1.5 hours from my house! The repair dealer did tell me that he would try to look at it and repair while I wait which is super nice. Just not happy with this microwave now. I probably would not purchase Panasonic (certainly not this one) again.

Seriously Needs an Inside Light when Door is Open

          Cons

          • poorly lit interior

          Best Uses

I don't know what Panasonic was thinking when they made the light shut off as soon as you open the door. You cannot view your food well or clean the interior of the oven without a flashlight. I bought a small gooseneck reading lamp to sit next to it to view my food while stirring or cleaning it. Otherwise a good unit.

We've only had it a couple of weeks, so I don't want to gush just yet. The only thing I don't care for, so far, is having to push the Power button multiple times in order to select the power level; our old microwave allowed us to push "Power" then use the number pad to select the Power level. Warming, heating, and defrosting features work well, and faster than our old microwave. I would buy this model again.

                Best Uses

This is the model that replaces my old one. The old one was very satisfactory, and gave good service, so I'm sticking with what has worked for me. Love the high power, and the inverter technology. HATE the loud beeper; it's twice as loud as the old one, but really the only negative feature to me.

First thing is: It heats stuff, as it should. My dislikes: I need a flashlight or other source to read the keypad; once the power level is set don't dare leave it unattended or the contents may be not what you want as the level is not displayed.

I'm so pleased with this Panasonic microwave. Our old one was Panasonic: never gave a moments trouble so we looked for the brand again. This one is not as tall so fits better in my historic house short countertop space. It's quieter, light weight, more powerful, cutting cooking time, and seems to have a knack for staying clean. I can still fit a 9 X 13 pyrex baking dish in it, too. I love it! Very competitive price, too!
