Comments about Peg Perego John Deere Mini Loader Tractor Battery Powered Riding Toy:
We recently purchased this as a birthday present for our 3-year-old grandson, who LOVES tractors. I knew it required some assembly, but had no idea there would be 30 steps involved! I got through the first 10 steps, then hit a wall with step 11. My husband I spent one and a half hours trying to get through that one step, to no avail, and feeling very frustrated, packed it up. I brought it to work and paid one of the maintenance men to finish it. Admittedly, my husband and I aren't the handiest people, but I have to believe the required assembly on these toys can be minimized so as not to make it such a major, time consuming and frustrating project. Once assembled, I charged the battery for the required 18 hours, installed it in the tractor and pushed the accelerator pedal. To my surprise and horror, the back wheels went backwards, and there is no reverse gear on this tractor. I elicited the help of someone more "in the know", who took the tractor apart and discovered that the wires had been hooked up incorrectly, he switched them and then the tractor moved forward correctly.
So, we were finally good to go. Our grandson loved it and rode around on it for about 1/2 hour, when it suddenly stopped. Sound came from the motor, but the wheels wouldn't turn, then one wheel literally fell apart! Fortunately, my husband was able to put it back together and tighten it, saying that the nut and screw didn't match. Both of these malfunctions (the wires and wheel) had nothing to do with our assembly of the tractor; they were both pre-assembled prior to shipment.
To say that this experience was stressful and disappointing is an understatement, and we can only hope that the tractor will continue functioning properly and that our grandson can enjoy it as we had hoped he would!
