We love this! As suggested we sealed and plastic lined the planter. Our yard is mostly brick pavers so this is the perfect solution for my salad garden. We planted herbs and salad greens -I can walk on my deck and cut fresh ingredients for dinner - that is very fun! This is a fine product at a reasonable price that looks great also. I might have to purchase another one!

Service was great, they were shipped quickly and packed well, and were received in good shape. Received them in Sept '11 and added some more stain and they look great. However, having problems now with the planters pulling apart at the bottom. I lined the planters with plastic and filled them with potting soil and several herbs. They are pretty heavy once some water was added. It seems as if the bottom of the planters has expanded and that is what is forcing the sides to push out at the bottom. It's very strange, but I followed the directions to a T and can't explain the problem. All the boards on the bottom remain flush with one another, so they are not moving apart to cause the problem. Fortunately, Hayneedle is providing good service and crediting me for the issue. I may try a different style in hopes I got a couple bad eggs (although it seems like a design issue given that BOTH my units are doing the same thing).

The planters look as good or even better than the picture. They are well built and have a classy look. Added bonus . . they came totally assembled!! If we needed add'l planters we would buy more of these. Great value. As far as the pros noted below, we just got the planters so we do not know how weather resistant they will be. We will be putting pots in them so the draining of the planter will not be an issue. No apparent cons but again we just got them. Overall, VERY PLEASED!

And was so pleased purchased another two. I did take advice from other reviewers - drilled some extra drainage holes and lined with plastic before filling. Put 1" of stones in the bottom to aid drainage.

I consider this planter to be well built and attractive design. It is a good value for the price paid. It also appears to be quite sturdy. The only modifications I plan to make to it are to add a few more drainage holes and line the planter with a plastic liner to protect the wood. the only complaint is that there was an insufficient amount of the packing foam which resulted in minor damage to the trim along the top of the planter, but not enough to be noticed by the casual observer or to get upset over.
