Comments about Poquito Avian Hotel Bird Cage:

Bought this from Hayneedle. New Old Stock. Bottle of touch-up paint in plastic bag w/all hardare broke eons ago, covered all hardware then dried. Top of "Hotel" - you can see in picture - is a separate piece that does not stay on. There's no way for it to lock in place. Handle comes off every time I pick it up. So full of design defects, plus it's unexplainable heft, makes this a disaster waiting to happen. Shoddy shipping and limited 30 day return policy (justifiable/documentable delay) leaves me stuck with this expensive piece of garbage.

Comments about Poquito Avian Hotel Bird Cage:

First, despite all the hype, this hotel bird cage is like a Budget Motel in the dregs of whatever city this is supposed to represent. When you life up the handle, it comes right off. The top, if you can see it in the picture, has prongs that fit into the sides of the hotel. But there's nothing to hold the prongs in place! They don't lock on, so after the handle comes off, the top could lift right up and it's bye, bye Birdie! The "touch up paint" bottle stuck in the plastic bag with hardware broke, covered everything with red paint then dried so I had to soak all hardware in mineral spirits to clean them, had to toss bottle away - old, broken, obviously broken some time ago. This is also really heavy. I mean seriously heavy. I'm stuck with it, 3 days past return date due to surgery so I can't use it, I'll have to buy another. Oh, perch too short to do anything other than go straight across. Everything about this is cheap, poorly designed and nothing locks so the whole thing could fall apart at any moment. Do Not Buy This! It is garbage.

Comments about Poquito Avian Hotel Bird Cage:

Sturdy, and just right for two conures to travel in...and spend some warm days outside...The only reasons I didnt give it a 5 star rating are

          (1) The assemble directions were crazy and totally useless

          (2) three areas of the cage had bent bars that needed to be fixed before it would all go together.

Even with all that I think it is a GREAT cage...

Comments about Poquito Avian Hotel Bird Cage:

I bought this cage to transport my parakeets to the doctor when necessary.

The cage was easy to construct; the only tool required is a screwdriver for one screw. All of the pieces didn't quite fit together. I did need to bend one of the tabs slightly so that it would fit into the appropriate slot.

The wire is thick, which causes the cage to be quite heavy. However, it's quite sturdy when fully assembled. This cage will not fall apart on you unexpectedly.

I didn't find the latches to be problematic. They fit quite well and the screw-in latch handles can be screwed in all the way to lock a latch closed. That's an excellent touch. The internal springs could be a bit stronger - you may wish to find replacement springs at a hardware store.

I did have an issue with the screw-in rope perch. The ends have two threaded prongs over which a cap screws so that it can be secured to the bars. While screwing on one of the caps I managed to break one of the prongs off. This was fixed with glue.

The handle, while doubling as a perch when your friend is outside of the cage, is awkward. I'm afraid of the weight of the cage breaking the wooden perch, and the metal bar underneath is uncomfortable to hold onto due to how thin it is and how heavy the cage is.

The cage came with a small bottle of paint but all of the pieces arrived undamaged and they didn't need touching up. Also, I'm not sure if the paint would be toxic in some way to a bird once dried, so even if I had the opportunity to use it I would not have done so.

The food and water bowls lock in underneath the wire enclosure, so they shouldn't fall out if you're in the car and hit a few bumps on the road.

Overall, it's a good cage for short term housing.

              Service and delivery comments:

Delivery took a little longer than I expected, but then I saw that the contents of the box were inspected according to a rather long checklist. Thank you, "M", for taking the time to make sure that everything was in order!

Comments about Poquito Avian Hotel Bird Cage:

I was pleasantly surprised at the construction of the cages. My only beef is that the locks are completely inadequate. Although one of my birds gives Houdini a run for his money, the other is usually not into lockpicking but even she hardly had to work at all to get the door open. The spring locks are nice but the hasps are not long enough. I had to suppliment the locks with small padlocks to keep the little beasties in their cages. The first night I used them i was awakened in the wee hours of the morning by both birds trying to snuggle in bed with me. So come up with a better locking mechanism and you've got a winner.
