Description
For better or worse, the Pacific Northwest is the scene of many a rainy day - the kind that makes us want to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book on the Portland Platform Bed. Wherever you're located - and whether it's raining or not - this bed entices with a striking, slightly curved headboard and open frame design that makes jumping in easy. Pile this bed with plump pillows, grab a blanket from the optional storage drawers underneath the frame, and settle in for a cozy afternoon.
This traditional bed is crafted with mortise-and-tenon joinery and durable, eco-friendly rubberwood sustainably harvested at the end of its latex-producing life cycle. Side rails are constructed of MDF or plywood, and the entire bed is finished with a high-build, five-step finishing process - including two color coats and multiple sealers - to ensure an even, lasting finish. Two finishes are available: Choose deep brown antique walnut or honey-colored caramel latte.
The bed's straight, frame-panel headboard is offset by either a simple open foot rail or an optional solid panel-design footboard. Two or four optional panel-front storage drawers finished in coordinating shades slip easily underneath the bed to catch clothing, extra blankets, books and magazines, and toys. Panel footboard is included when you order drawers; bed only options come with open foot rail.
The headboard and foot rail or footboard connect to the side panels with an innovative hook-and-pin system that allows you to set the frame at two heights. Two metal pins are embedded in the headboard and foot rail or board at two positions, and the side rails are outfitted with hook-shaped hardware that slides into place over the pins. Set the bed high for use with our optional storage drawers or set it low for use with a mattress only.
Twin, full, and queen sizes available. Choose the bed and two drawers, the bed and four drawers, or the bed only.

About Atlantic Furniture
Founded in 1983 as Watercraft, Inc., Atlantic Furniture started as a manufacturer of pine waterbed frames. Since then, the Springfield, Mass.-based company has expanded to Fontana, Calif. The company has moved away from the use of pine and now specializes in imported furniture made of the wood of rubber trees.
The Benefits of Eco-Friendly Rubberwood
Prized as an environmentally friendly wood, rubberwood makes use of trees that have been cut down at the end of their latex-producing life cycle. The trees are removed by hand and replaced with new seedlings. In the past, felled rubber trees were either burned on the spot or used as fuel for locomotive engines, brick firing, or latex curing. Now the wood is used in the manufacture of high-end furniture. It is valued for its dense grain, stability, attractive color, and acceptance of different finishes.
Atlantic's Unique Five-Step Finishing Process
Each product in the entire line is finished with a high-build, five-step finishing process. After a thorough sanding, a wipe-on sealer is applied, followed by a tinted sealer to even the grain and color of the wood. Additional sanding prepares the surface for the first base color coat, more sanding, and a second base color coat. After a final sanding, the finish coat is applied. This process produces a beautiful and durable finish that will last for years.

Comments about Atlantic Furniture Portland Platform Bed:
Last year in May I purchased a queen size platform bed frame. The total cost was [$] (hidden shipping and drawer costs). This frame is incredibly poorly designed and the wood product is flimsy and cheap. I would never recommend this frame to anyone. We have had endless problems with this bed. Here are the issues:-Drawers - come apart easily (with simply pulling open)-Under supports (vertical composite boards that are intended to hold the under boards up)- broke almost immediately with the weight of the mattress alone, cracking right in half where the screws go-under boards - easily bend and sag with weight of mattress alone-Side boards - one has almost completely cracked in the middle and will break any day, completely ruining the frameWe have purchased and installed additional support items (T shaped under supports made of solid wood and not composite, plywood boards to hold up mattress). However, the side boards (which are no thicker than ¾ inch) are about to break and will ruin the whole bed and drawers. At night, I hear it creaking. In sum, I am incredibly disappointed with this product. The design is pretty, but the engineering and craftsmanship truly deserves an F grade. I contacted the company by email a week ago and never received a reply.

Comments about Atlantic Furniture Portland Platform Bed:
We wanted a platform bed to support our new foam mattress! For the price of the bed's "foundation" we were able to buy an entire platform bed. The bed has a great modern look to it, yet it is also traditional. Also very sturdy and nice finish (the antique brown is still pretty dark-- with just a hint of reddish undertone). It's a great height! The directions to put it together are not so great. In fact, my husband was about to nail the slats in UPSIDE down according to the vague directions... luckily I was hovering around and questioned him before he got too far...!

Comments about Atlantic Furniture Portland Platform Bed:
I get 2 of this bed frames. I was looking for simple/safe design, frame is high-enough to clean under the bed at ease and good quality of the wood. This frame fits all of my criteria. Great for kids room, easy to match up on the existing furnitures. Only downsides are that the headborad come with a bit a paint scratch, and some of the pre-set holes for the nuts and bolts are not a perfect fit. But we managed to asseble it and my kids love them. Overall, I think is a great buy for its price.
